"Uncasville, CT  Prior to the Connecticut Sun's 91-74 season opening victory the team had a short celebration in honor of winning its second consecutive WNBA Eastern conference title. A highlight film was shown from last year's WNBA best 26-8 season. When the video ended the conference championship banner was raised to the rafters of the Mohegan Sun Arena before 8,316 enthusiastic fans. A fireworks display followed and then the streamers came tumbling down from the roof top to conclude the ceremonies and put an end to the celebration of last season's considerable successes.

It was time for the 2006 season to begin. The entire Liberty team was introduced ending with the starters: WNBA All-Star Becky Hammon, the versatile Shameka Christon, Barbara Farris, a former Detroit Shock utility player, and two former UConn Husky players in Kelly Schumacher and Ashley Battle.

Then a large podium-like contraption made in the shape of the sun was wheeled to center court. The lights went dark and the announcer introduced each Connecticut player. As their names were called a blaze of fire surged upwards, lighting the arena.
