NBLxNBA: Taipans vs Raptors

In an interview, Jonah Antonio said that Tajhere McCall will miss the game, along with Taran Armstrong (who was in a moon boot in the NBL's video).

He also said that "Sam" went home due to illness - assume that's Mennenga as I could see Waardenburg training in the background of the video, so hopefully he's back.

But if the Taipans only had 9 players against the Wizards, and they've lost another 3 now (whilst gaining Waardenburg), how are they gonna have enough guys to even suit up? Antonio also said in the interview that they might "have something in the works" to get some other players.

Anyone know if the Taipans are allowed to bring in Americans to play for them just for the Raptors game?

They are, other NBL teams have brought in guys from the G-League to fill out their rosters especially given as NBA rosters are much bigger than NBL rosters (15 vs 11).

Melbourne United got within one point of a win by topping up their squad.

As per Taipans website...

"The Taipans play their second game in the NBA preseason tournament and will have regrouped after going down to the Washington Wizards last Wednesday, however, have some major exclusions from their squad which has led to reinforcements being called in.

They will be without Taran Armstrong due to that foot injury, Tahjere McCall will not be playing due to birth of his first child while Sam Mennenga is still ill, however Lachlan Anderson re-joins the squad.

Point guard Elfrid Payton has been called in to the squad for this game, bringing with him experience from five NBA teams, after being drafted as tenth overall pick in the first round of the 2014 draft, along with free agent forward Nuni Omot, who starred on the South Sudanese team at the recent FIBA World Cup."

Yep, not much interest on here about Cairns unfortunately.

While it's no doubt been a fantastic experience for those involved, the Taipans were going to do it tough enough in a best-case scenario let alone with players out sick/injured. Playing short-handed in longer games with some different rules was always going to make life difficult for them, particularly with such a young team.

I hope they can get back fit and healthy now with a bit of a break before their next game and still have a strong NBL season.

One of their strengths in the NBL is their athleticsm and speed, but relying on that is a tough recipe for success against NBA teams, especially with key guys not playing.
