Doesn't look like they have added any new guys into the crocs camp that’s currently going on. Maybe someone else has more of an insight…

Deeper field than in women’s Comp, 16 teams fighting for 4 WC spots.

Tournament starts on the 17th September in Qatar.

There are probably more, but the one I know about is Hughes (injury) being replaced by Riddle.

Where's Riddle from? Very surprised Sam Blain didn't get a call up. That said they are fairly deep in the Guards

If its anything like the Women's tournament the key will be how well we can execute from the perimeter. Walker and Dash and Beauchamp will need to shoot well
Asian teams will be fast so it will be interesting to see whether they go with a different make up from the previous squad.

Is the Victorian Cheeseman, is that Phil Smyths grandson?

His ex wife was Jenny Cheeseman and they had a couple of kids before divorcing.

Unless Jenny has a child later in life.

Maybe a little on the smaller side, but I guess that won't be a problem in the Asia Cup

Is the fact no NSW representation a concern for BNSW program?

Reply #922014 | Report this post

XyZ

wow the majority of the team is from VIC.
What is interesting is that aside from Victoria there is no consistent correlation between selection in State teams and being considered in this group. No Lau and Bucknell.
I hope they do well.
BNSW has to be asking some serious questions. Why such a divide between the Boys and Girls programs. It's not talent but it may have to do with other factors

This is a strong team which will do well, and not surprising to see so many Vics given how dominant that group has been in their age group. There is however a tendency and record in Victoria to choose and develop kids that are quite likely to become footballers.

Australia
Khazakstan
China
Japan
South Korea
Bahrain
Saudi Arabia
Nz
Phillipines
Malaysia
Iran
Jordan

4/8 in girls, (usually 4-5 good teams fighting for 4 spots)
4/16 in boys, (these days 7-8 good teams fighting for 4 spots)

@weedy slug... can you tell me about Alex Dickeson ? I can't find any stats or where he’s from ? I’m seeing one in Adelaide at Southern Tigers but can’t see any state stats ?
Did he play in Brisbane but nothing under SAM or SAC

That's the right one. Dickeson didn't make the U16 state Metro team last year and elected not to try out for U18s this year. Plays for Southern Tigers locally, and had some NBL1 opportunities. 6'2 guard or thereabouts. Very good shooter and passer.

Thank you PlaymakerMo, wonderful effort from the young lad, not to play nationals and get selected for Aus teams. They must see something in him that the SAM selectors didn't!
Glad he stuck at it and is getting rewarded. Im sure its a discussion point amongst this age group!

Frogface it isn't as big of an issue you are making it out to be. He didn't trial in 18's so they couldn't select him. I have no doubt they would have selected him if he did. The boy improved a lot since 16s

sixerfan im not wanting to make it an issue at all, you are totally wrong with that comment as im wrapped for the kid. I was interested in his journey as it was hard to follow from a distance.

I have no doubt hes worthy of his spot, i wasnt suggesting otherwise

Its great to see the AUS selectors looked far and wide.

Watched some of bottom ager Isaac Riddle play early July for SA Metro u16 boys didn't stand out well looked like he was more of just a highlight player by using his athleticism there were lots of bigs that could have been selected from the tournament such as:

K.Swaka Lo Buluk
Z.Okeke
J.Osikoyo
L.Christopher
Plenty more

But what Sixersfan said he must of impressed the coaching staffs

Dickeson like Olbrich before him showing that there are pathways for kids that get overlooked by state coaches and selectors

Considering they played a team that most top level Australian club teams could have beaten it is pretty hard to say how they played. Be a number of lads around Australia that wish they were from Victoria though I reckon, no disrespect to those picked but it certainly looks to help!
