Expect Nunawading to be in the Gold Medal game for both - Nothing short of impressive so far. Southern Districts definitely a smokey in the Boys Division.

Gold Medal Game Tips
Girls: Nunawading vs Mackay
Boys: Nunawading vs Kilsyth

All three WA girls teams being in Shield Division shows that whatever we are doing development wise back in WA is not working. Only one team, albeit the Mighty Cougars, making the Top 12 in the boys further proves this fact

Time to get rid of the purple circle boys club at BWA and hit the reset button.

The game that everyone is wanting to see as the Gold medal game is Nudawading Spectres play Brisbane Spartans but unfortunately the way the draw is that is going to be the semi final game so one of the best 2 teams will be playing for Bronze which is a real shame.

Girls placing:

1. Nunawading
2. Norwood
3. Southern

Some cracking players. Decent prospects for future youth international teams.

U14 club champs not the best indicator of jnr n.t players because of the absence of so many quality players who's club did not make the tournament and the level of comp each club team is up against varies greatly.

You can clearly see a few guaranteed sapphires though from this u14 champs

09/10 sapphires guarantees imo
PG Elliot
SG
SF Smith
PF
C Johnson

09/10 early days
PG Fakalata, Catip, Brown, Robinson
SG Olechnowicz, Hocking, Minshall, Hardin
SF Ryan, Ljubicic, Daly, Bonham
PF Barbakas, Thorburn, Trout, Rioli
C Coble
+ others I can’t remember off the top of my head

Outside of club champs, several other quality players but this age group really lacks bigs unlike 07/08

Daly and Bonham are 2010. Pretty sure the only 2010 in that list.

U14 girls Melbourne Tigers beat Casey with literally two made free throws after the final buzzer. Down one-point, young athlete stepped up and nailed both. Swished the first, celebrated, composed herself, then second one hit front rim, glass then dropped in. Amazing

Girls semi final Nudawading v Spartans was a great match with Nudawading leading by as much as 17 but Spartans never gave up and major comeback to go down by 2 in the end,
Nudawading lost their starting point guard and starting big being fouled out midway through the 4th qtr and Spartans went on a run but fell short.

Crowd support loud and strong and made the atmosphere great to be there.

Spartans still have a Bronze Medal chance so must recompose themselves and come out ready to play.

Not sure how Mackay will go against Spectres as they lack the heght compared to Spectres.Just hope it is a good game.

Well done Nunawading. Has there been other times when the same club has won both boys and girls GFs at same competition?

Only four times in the tournament's history have both winners been from the same club, not surprisingly all VIC clubs:

1988 Melbourne Tigers
2003 Dandenong Rangers
2010 Melbourne Tigers
2022 Nunawading Spectres

Given that these championships were held in Sydney to coincide with the Women's World Cup, where do we think next year's tournament will be held?

Wasn't it supposed to be held in Casey during COVID times? Will they be handed it back?

One would hope with the relative success of this year's tournament across two sites, that BA would again not go back to the usual standard of having it in Victoria. Surely look at two more associations in NSW or even two clubs in Brisbane, Sunshine Coast or Gold Coast could surely have a venue capable of holding it? WA you could have Willetton / Lakeside who are a short distance apart, or Mandurah / Rockingham or Perry Lakes (Bendat) / Warwick. Victoria already has the strongest clubs for the most part year in year out, let's not give them an even bigger advantage by letting them host the tournament every other year just because it's convenient to BA's head office.

Casey were to hold the 14 Clubs this year until it was changed to Sydney to the same week as the Womens World Cup.

Casey will hold the event for the next 2 years.
