Spoke to Oscar last night and he said that the Blitz format was quite difficult to take seriously when the clock was left to run all the time. He said that in the game against Hunter where they lost by 4, the Pirates called a time-out with 1:30 to go and because the clock wasn't stopped it basically left the Sixers running onto the court with a few seconds to spare to get a last shot off.

No wonder we're only seeing players get 3 boards in 20 minutes -- that 20 probably translates to more like a quarter of properly timed basketball given that the clock doesn't stop for foul shots either.

Day 2

Quarter Finals

Brisbane Bullets defeated Wollongong Hawks 37-24
BOXSCORE
The Brisbane Bullets have become the first team to advance to the Semi Finals of the ABC Learning Centres Blitz, downing the Wollongong Hawks comfortably in their Quarter Final clash, 37-24.

Stephen Black was a perfect 3-of-3 from the perimeter as he scored a game-high 13 points for the Bullets. Adam Darragh added seven for Brisbane while Andrew Rice was the best of the Hawks with nine.

Brisbane led 21-14 at the half and were never threatned by the Hawks down the stretch.

The Bullets now advance to meet the winner of the Quarter Final between the Melbourne Tigers and Sydney Kings.

Adelaide 36ers defeated West Sydney Razorbacks 31-29
BOXSCORE
The Adelaide 36ers have held off the West Sydney Razorbacks to qualify for the Semi Finals, narrowly defeating last season's runners-up, 31-29.

In a low-scoring affair, the 36ers trailed early to be down by six points, 18-12, at the half. Adelaide surged back after the break to take the lead and seemed to have the game in hand when they went on a two-on-one fast break with 10 seconds to play and up by two points.

Simon Dwight's defensive presence disrupted the play however and the Pigs had one final shot at a win after regaining the ball with a little over five seconds left. Aaron Trahair shot a step-back three that rimmed out however to give the 36ers the win.

Brett Maher was outstanding for the 36ers, including making a tough jumper in the closing minute to give Adelaide the two point edge. Maher had nine points and Dusty Rychart added eight while Nick Horvarth had a game-high 10 points for the Pigs.

Adelaide now advance to meet the winner of the Townsville Crocodiles versus Hunter Pirates Qurter Final.

Sydney Kings defeated Melbourne Tigers 36-31 OT
BOXSCORE
The Sydney Kings have defeated the Melbourne Tigers in an OT thriller, 36-31, to advance to a Semi Final showdown with the Brisbane Bullets.

The Kings built an early lead and had a four-point buffer at the break, 11-7, in a low scoring first half. Melbourne fought back however to force the OT period before the reigning champs outscored the Tigers 10-5 in the extra period to advance.

Jason Smith top-scored for the Kings with a game-high 13 points while Ben Knight added seven points and five rebounds. Andrew Gaze had nine points to lead Melbourne.

Townsville Crocodiles defeated Hunter Pirates 37-23
BOXSCORE
The Townsville Crocodiles have maintained their unbeaten status by defeating the Hunter Pirates, 37-23, in their Quarter Final.

The Crocs led early but surged ahead on the back of some suffocating defence in the second half, restricting the Pirates to just eight points.

Brad Newley had 12 points to lead the Crocs while John Rillie added seven of his own. Larry Davidson top-scored for the Pirates with eight points.

Townsville now advance to a Semi Final showdown with the Adelaide 36ers.
