That was unexpected
Is Dante fit and healthy? If so why isn't he playing for the boomers?
Can a NBL team owner play in the NBL?

So he can still play for sem when he retires from the NBA. Nice

I wondered if this was purely a publicity move. e.g., SEM offer Dante a small stake at no cost. Maybe they just ask for quotes for the press release or do it in exchange for an appearance each time he's in town. Low risk for him, assuming he's not on the hook for costs/losses, and gives them headlines for the cost of a stake in a business of difficult to determine value.

Lol how many "owners" does one team need?! Also will be interesting to see if the owners can stay professional considering a lot of the guys on the team are also friends with the staff/management. I mean, are they going to be hitting the clubs together? Seems a bit sketchy.

The owner is giving them a small number of shares to help build the brand and spread the cost base.

Effectively its a gift but with a responsibility to contribute to costs in the event they are incurred.

Dante Exum buys into SEM Phoenix

Basketball has skyrocketed in Australia, with the sport more popular than ever and worldwide recognition at an all-time high. The direction of the NBL and Australian basketball globally was a significant factor behind the investment from the Australian star.

"It's an honour to be joining the investment group of the South East Melbourne Phoenix," Exum said. “Melbourne has played a key role in my basketball journey and the chance to be involved in the ownership group of the SEM Phoenix is a perfect way to further that strong connection with the city. I look forward to seeing the continued growth of the NBL and much success and excitement for the team and the city of Melbourne.”

I don’t see where in the interview the part about it’s been given to him. It looks like he has invested in the team but I’m probably wrong. Sem already has 3 ex NBA players investing for free? Why would they need another one ? It’s hard to see them giving away that many shares, Maybe.
It’s a good thing for the team and for the NBL. Who will be the next Australian NBA player to buy into an NBL team? Cairns , Brisbane or the hawks could benefit a lot from someone like them.

You can issued thousands of shares or millions if you wish so the actual value of these are nominated as opposed to trade on a free market.
