Rd 3 - Perth @ Brisbane

Thoughts, feelings, emotions?

Can the bullets bounce back?

Will it be a repeat of Saturday?

Personally, looking forward to a win, so the Red Army Marks can gloat while opposition fans and Homicide bite back.

No the Bullets can't bounce back - although they could ricochet

This is one of those games Perth should win but lose focus, last year it took a stunning stepback just to win against the Spooners in BrisVegas.

Perth would love to go 4 & 0 and Brisbane may just let that happen.

Brisbane are just making up numbers in the league if they let this game go. It's a home game and Perth don't travel well on the road. Perth also tend to worry about their second game in a two game round, so Brisbane must show they are serious.

Brisbane have some reasonable talent. They are not inexperienced and some have been playing together for some time. It might be time to throw the keys in the fruit bowl for a team bonding session.

Brisbane should win against a distracted Perth, but only if they play as a team.

Perth by 10

Gibbo called out his team's lack of intensity after last week and they are expected to be more physical. The cats response to this will be to flop harder than they have ever flopped before. A big part of who wins will be whether the refs get sucked in by the flopping or whether they call the bs when they see it.

Some very accurate comments above.
Perth should win, on form and ability, but can lose focus in these games, and if Brisbane are at them from the start the game could go either way.

I think they will miss Egwu. He wasn't outstanding, but gave them another genuine big to rotate against Perth.

Just hoping White steps up and has a good game.
Will be interesting to see if Trevor uses Kay and Cotton more sparingly in anticipation of the Melbourne game.

I think the absence of Egwu might see them go smaller with Gee at PF for stretches, which would help them for mine because they just don't have speed mismatches anywhere on the court except for Te Rangi, but he isn't at the level to capitalise on them at a decent rate.

Gee going against PFs at least gives them a focal point on offence, allows them to have more shooters on the floor with three guards, and also allows them to be more aggressive defensively and generate easy scores.

Yep, or the Breakers' veteran team.

"Brisbane need a scorer who can get the ball when there's 4 seconds left on the shotclock and create something."

Agree 100%. They don't have a speed mismatch anywhere on the floor against almost every opponent. You could argue Holt and Te Rangi (at PF) but neither of them finish penetration at a high rate.

New import is good if they've got jets, but more time with Vukona and Gee at PF and Bairstow at C, and even Holt at SF could be a good remedy for them.

Disappointed.
Perth will lose games, it happens, but we have an easy start to the season and should be making the most of it.
Also annoyed that every random on the internet picked the risk, and Perth still walked into it.
Lack of focus & lack of D let Brissy out of the gates too much in the 1st quarter. Apart from that, it was a good, close, see-sawing game, but Perth never really recovered from that.

And please stop bitching about the refs.
Some calls look worse than they are, and yeah sometimes they make mistakes, get over it. Didn't cost us the game.

White was disappointing with his inaccuracy. Got the job done, but at a woeful clip. I don't want him to become that guy that tops scores by taking 3 times the shots. Hope he can get some consistency.
Compared to Tokoto he's a bit bland, not so many highlights, and at times looked a little soft on D. Hopefully he will step it up in coming games.

Not sure why we bother giving Hire minutes? Might as well put them into Vague.
It seems his leg is still stuffed, he's not even getting the boards he once did.

It's funny, I could have sworn Jervis was more involved, but he just wasn't. No boards & no points. Maybe he didn't get an exit row?

Perth and Brisbane once again demonstrating why they're the most boring teams to watch in the whole competition. Both need another import to spice them up. The Aussies they do have are the most flavorless ones in the league as well.

Meanwhile, yeah Brisbane won. Good for them. But I think it's because Perth came in with the wrong attitude and mindset. They probably expected the win and had their heads set on what would happen against Melbourne. No team in the league is that bad that you can sleepwalk to a win. And Cotton having one of his worst games in recent memory doesn't help things either. They're very limited when Cotton isn't making his shots.

Bullets shot the lights out, Wildcats didn't play the D we are used to seeing. Simple reasons why Perth lost. We shouldn't have been anywhere near them the way they were shooting from deep, yet we got within 2pts. I'm disappointed we lost yeah, but it's not the end of the world. Terrico is a great fit, yeah he's not flashy, but he seems all business which is what we need. An ice cold shooter with no emotion. His defence though looked a little lazy, there were points when I thought to myself Tokoto would've contested and likely blocked that shot, but I guess it's pretty hard to find a guy with the full skill set like Ennis. Enjoy the win Bullets, cos you ain't gonna be shooting like that every game, and if you don't you lose.

I couldnt care less if Wildcats are considered boring... I enjoy watching the team win at the end of the day it seems so do our fans as we have more turning up to games than any other team.

Bullets forced the Cats to rush a lot and we couldnt hit a shot to save our lives. I stated on FB prior to the game it was a danger game for the Cats and I was spot on.

I wouldnt say Perth have an easy start to the season though, playing Melbourne at home 2 days after having played in Brisbane is never going to be easy.

I've only been reading these forums for a few months, but holy shit is it toxic. I'm a Perth fan, and all I wanted was to find an NBL-centric forum with some informed opinions, but the hate for Perth (and what just feels like negativity in general) is so out of control that it's not worth it. Embarrassing.

there are well informed opinions on here, you just have to know how to find them amongst the trash

Helpful hint for that, don't go looking for them in Perth or Adelaide game threads

Ultimately, Brisbane scored points better than Perth did, that's rather obvious. So since that is the aim of the game, yes they played better.
Doesn't mean we can't discuss the game, doesn't mean there weren't good and bad points on both sides.
Nor is it surprising that fans tend to focus on their on team, nor that Perth currently has more fans than Brissy.

I liked the way Holt was attacking the basket, although at times he seemed like he felt he had to do it all himself. Personally I think they look better with him at the point, and I'd play Caddee as the backup 1/2.

One thing I noticed was that both teams were playing small a lot, surprising considering the squads. Maybe it was a mistake by Perth considering their 3's just weren't dropping. I still feel their squad balance isn't right.

Not that is was a pivotal moment in the game, and purely just as as observation....did anyone else notice Te Rangi's missed travel call during the game, roughly half court, and no contested play?

IMO the officials are hell bent on calling some soft fouls and letting the bleeding obvious go.
But thats just my humble opinion.

Similar to the Melb/36's missed call.

"Helpful hint for that, don't go looking for them in Perth or Adelaide game threads"

This is true, but a strong majority of the inane comments in a Perth thread are from the "EAD Perth" brigade.

Much like with DJ Quick, I think balance & options for Perth is a strong point.
Once fully healthy, Angus will be more of a weapon than he has been in the early games. That should open things up elsewhere. Jervis was not good, but I didn't think he was 6-minutes-and-that's-it level of bad. Hope he's ok.

Given Brandt + Jervis = 26 minutes, that's small ball by Cats standards. I would have expected that would mean more Steindl minutes, but he only got 10.
Why's he on such a short leash? He's putting up shots that he should be putting up IMO. If he misses a couple that's not a reason to drag him. If it's something else that's causing it then fair enough, but I'm not seeing it. He was one of few Cats with a positive +/- last night.

Anyway it's unlike Perth to give up 100 points and >50% from the field so I will let that game slide for now.
We'll know more in 24 hours once we've played United. That's a great test.

Quick history lesson time. Cats fans invaded this site around a decade ago and were super arrogant once they were winning consistently, which created the tension we have today. Sixers threads are also like this due to baiting by Cats and other club fans since the used base is from Adelaide as this site originally was called Hoops SA and majority Sixer fans. Now you have ill will to Cats fans due to their past behaviour and plus trolling of the Adelaide users.

Quick history lesson part 2:
We have been winning consistently since 1987, so what the OP is really trying to say is that we were super arrogant from the moment we invaded this site.

(which we were)

The toxic nature of these forums is because anons are allowed.

They are allowed because it brings more traffic and a chance to subsidise some costs for Issac.

Get rid of anons and the quality will improve.

Wasn't it a decade ago Sydney beat you by about 50 in the playoffs? ;-)

Incorrect, the other site that Hoops overtook as #1 in traffic was way more toxic before it went by the wayside and no anons were allowed. I remember even isaac giving up as the trolls (with nicknames, profiles and avatars) were so resilient and pointless.

Funny you mention Sydney - their fans during the three peat era are #1 in terms of arrogance on NBL forums of all time. F**k they were painful!

Most of the comments (re THIS THREAD), are about how/why Perth lost. Anyone remember that Brisbane won?

Missed the 1st half but heard that Bris shot the lights out, what I saw was great as Perth were very much in the game and I, for one, was very pleased that Bris did not snatch defeat from..... as happened several times last season.

IMO, Bullets roster no better/no worse than then, but they have 2 impressive wins already. Happy to hear that Gee to be replaced but sincerely hope it's because of ball issues, not personal/family ones.
