NBL Awards Night thread

Who do you think will get what?

Most Valuable Player
Coach of the Year
Rookie of the Year
Most Improved Player
Best Defensive Player
Best Sixth Man

All NBL First?

And while we're at it, predictions for Grand Final MVP?

I have no idea really for many of these! Thinking Damien Martin must be a shoo-in again for Defensive Player of the year, maybe Gordie for Coach and Jervis for Rookie?

I'd say Wright for coach but maybe that little incident a few weeks ago pushes Gordie a little ahead of him?

Would be interesting to see what happens in the other categories!

Ennis should win mvp depends on whether the vote people are against americans and want it to go to an aussie. Goulding only scored during the season and therefore won the scoring award. He did nothing else 2 rebs and 2 ass per game compared to ennis 8 reb and 3 ass.

Are these awards done on a votes per game basis along the same lines as the Brownlow, or is there a panel which comes up with a winner? (Or is there some other method). Does anyone know?

Similar to Brownlow except both coaches have ten votes to distribute however they see fit after every game. Max 5 votes can be given to any player per game.

MVP Goulding
ROY Jervis
MIP Tomlinson
Coach Trevor G
Defensive D. Martin
6th Man Wilson

Would have love to put Ennis as MVP but if you took Goulding out of the tigers team they wouldn't make finals but you take Ennis out of Perth they would still be in the grand final

COY: arm wrestle between Joey & Gordie.
MVP: Ennis might pip out Rotnei Clarke. It's easy to get it when you're in a talented team. I feel Clarke has lifted those around him and that is a sign of a leader. Ennis's job has been easier with talented guys making the path easier.
Defensive: Damien Martin or Darth Flopper. Ogilvy was strong early, but first half performance compared to second half performance is like there were two players.
Best Sixth: Gee. Creek would be up there. Wagstaff most likely. Wilson played as a sixth, but as an import should he count?
Most Improved: There's about 6 guys who could pick up this award. Even Oscar could be in the mix. Tommy Garlepp would be unlucky if he's not in the top 3. Tomlinson has had a great year. I think "Bubbles" will get this one.
ROY: Another hard category. Mitch Young would have to rate well.

I feel Gliddon needs an award somewhere. Sam Young as well.

Would like to see Rusty get some recognition by the NBL after a stella career. When he goes, who takes the title of Leader of the Elder Statesmen of the NBL? Forman (392 games over 13 seasons) Holmes (379), Corletto (369), Ballinger (311), Vukona (303), Redhage (295), Davidson, Wortho (252).

Not a bad progression for DJ.

All Third team 2011-12
All Second team 2012-13
All First team 2013-14

Looks like he was the only 36ers player to win an award tonight

Tonight's awards seem to have been dominated by the Wollongong Hawks.

Being one of only 2 coaches in NBL history to bring a team from wooden spoon one year to a grand final position the following year earns you quite a lot of Best Coach Award points. Joey Wright to win Coach of the year.

Sorry EC but the COTY went to Gordie McLeod.

The NBL's history of ignoring the 36ers coaching staff continues.

Gordie deserved coach award. Wright has done a good job at Adelaide.

Not knocking the efforts of Gordie McLeod and congratulations to him. But the Hawks finished with exactly the same record (13-15) as they did last season and were swept in their semi-final series by Perth for the second straight year. Adelaide improved from 8-20 to 18-10 under Joey Wright and have made the Grand Final after being dead last in 2011-12 and 2012-13.

My opinion may seem biased being a 36ers fan, but I think Joey Wright deserved it more. Did the post match BS in Perth count against him?

It's coach of the year, not most improved coach.

Wright had a far better roster than Gordie, and as I've said half a dozen times now, 'better than Marty Clarke' is an awful low bar.

I never said anything about Marty Clarke, or about being an improved coach.

All I'm questioning is how someone wins Coach of the Year when their team posts a losing record.

Interesting references in Boti's blog, about someone's reaction to not getting the MVP award. Worth a read at http://www.botinagy.com/blog/can/
