Kings to dump Elliott, NZ get Wooten

Despite Rodney Elliott helping the Kings to their Monday night win over the Breakers, I think they might be planning on replacing him as early as this week.

That would make him the second import to be cut from the Kings this season, or third if you count Bryant Matthews.

Not guaranteed, but it's been on the cards for a while and some of those in-the-know are hardly suggesting otherwise.

Meanwhile, as posted in the Brian Wethers thread, the NZ Breakers have put Wethers on injury waivers and are rushing Pierre Wooten into the line-up. Apparently there have been concerns over Wethers' knee (it was strapped before the Kings game) and the club was already looking into their options so as to be prepared.

The Kings are challenging for 3-6 on the ladder, while the Breakers are now a bit of a long shot at pestering Adelaide, Wollongong and Singapore for the final play-off position.

I'm somewhat surprised that Elliott has lasted this long, he's been pretty ordinary every time I've seen him play. He's lucky that David Barlow got hurt when he did.

Anyone know of any likely replacements for Elliot if in fact he does get cut?

Whats the ruling on min games played to be eligible for playoffs, I was under the impression that it used to be ten, back in the Garrison/Timmons signing mid season days - has this changed?

What gets me, is Coach Brian Goorjian has said the following

"We need someone who can rebound inside and be a real physical presence and Rodney is just not that type of player. His best aspects are that he shoots the ball well and is a guy that plays well off others and I know he'll be a great fit for another club."

Now, if thats the case, they got another under-achieving import in Ed Scott

IMO, Elliott is better than Ed "i cant buy a 3" Scott

Why not axe him, keep Elliott, and get a bigman

Its not as if the Kings need to keep a GRD........they are loaded with em

Elliots head was bigger than the basketball itself......or maybe Goorjian couldnt handle anyone with a bigger head than him?!?!

Fez, disagree. Without Scott, they have Kendall (more of a SG) and BJ Carter at the point. They do need one.

I do agree that Scott is no better than Rowland though.

issac i would have agreed with up until the other night when he scored bout 20 points and got 9 assists. i know its only one game but it was pretty impressive, probably more so than Elliots game IMO. Goorjan has obviously had trouble recruiting though. Surely him and his staff Knew they needed someone with more of an inside prescence before they recruited Elliot and that he wasnt that type of player. Pretty poor really.

Do contracts still need to be paid out if a player is axed in the NBL??
Surely not or wouldnt Sydney be well over the cap? I wouldnt think their imports would be down the lower end of their player payment list.....

Also its funny how before this season lots of people were saying Goorj was a great recruiting power in the states and had all these contacts.

Depends what's in their contracts.

Remember that Goorj's first pick was Bryant Matthews. Then EJ Rowland who is doing just fine in Townsville. It's his second tier choices that aren't quite what they need.

Rodney Elliott is gone.
