attendance at games

Just a thort. NBA games on adverage get around 16'000 people at games during the regular season. At the dome we get aroud 3'500-4'500. The capital of the US Washington only has round bout 600'000 people were as Adelaide has just over 1 million people. Adelaide has 400'000 people more and yet the yanks still get four times the numbers at games, and yes i know the dome only holds just over 7'000 but you would think with over 1 million people the dome should nearly be sold out every game.

With calculations like that, can you do my accounts?

Try and think of a few factors which could be impacting those numbers.

Basketball is big in the US. In Australia, AFL, Cricket, Rugby and now Soccer are more popular then basketball. Even thugh AFL and Rugby is played in the winter, the market more, the sponsorship goes there and people just don't care about basketball. That is why attendance numbers are worse.

Interesting to see what teams are supported most.

Average crowd pergame

36ers 5,257
Crocs 5,005
Kings 4,854
Dragons 4,581
Cairns 4,080
Hawks 4,061
Wildcats 3,805
Slingers 3,502
Bullets 2,983
Tigers 2,817
Razorbacks 2,667
NZ 2,604

It's great that Adelaide generally get the most crowds. That should be happening more. NZ should be getting more support and the Tigers need to move to a bigger stadium because they can get bigger crowds. Cairns and Crocs get great crowds and the Dragons have been very successful this year.

Seriously, if the NBL was even a mediocre league, then the teams should have be getting atleast an average of 5,000.

One big thing you missed, Washington D.C. has a population of 600,000. But it borders Virginia, Maryland. It used to take me 5 Mins to get form the stadium to Virginia. This and Baltimore is a mere 30mins from Washington with a population of another 600,000 people.
Over 300,000 people live just south of D.C in Virginia, its cheaper.

So your looking at atleast 1.5mill without considering the other out lying areas.

If you ever goto America goto a college game then an NBA game, huge difference, College has real rules. NBA is for showman, but still bloody good.

123abc - have you made up those figures? I don't buy the Slingers ones in particular. And I don't know that the 36ers have averaged 5,000+ this year?

Slingers is over this year, Sixers over several just like all of them except Dragons and Slingers.

From Aus Stadiums.com.au

All correct figures.

Just because you got it off another website doesnt make it correct.

I struggle to believe that is our average for the season. I doubt we would have even hit that amount more that twice.

5,257 is an all-time average.

Those recent 10 games average to 4,557.

Would explain why Singapore's attendances are so high - would be including past exhibition games which had closer to 10,000 people than the current Slingers games which are about 1,000-1,500.

and how many people attend an AFL or cricket game in Washington?

No point in making this entire comparison.

it shows how the alltime averages are down for most teams especially the Sixers. It's not useless.
