Farley out of favour
Smyth, according to forum poster EC, says Farley was ill on Saturday night. Boti is today suggesting otherwise, saying he is "little more than a pouting passive when the planets are not correctly aligned".
I said during the game, and then after the game on this forum and OzHo that I suspected something more was afoot. Check these (admittedly selective) quotes to see what you think.
Nothing can destroy a team as quickly or as efficiently as the disease of "me" and currently it is afflicting both of Adelaide's elite basketball teams. What from here? Is it an attempt at a wake-up call or conditioning fans for the exit of an import after season 06/07?
Sadly, (Farley) also is equally capable of ignoring his defensive responsibilities, of going through the motions for lengthy periods, of being little more than a pouting passive when the planets are not correctly aligned.
In Saturday's 102-100 win over Singapore, he was subbed early after Slingers' import Mike Helms burnt him for seven quick points.
Farley did little with additional chances to atone.
His body language as the 36ers kept alive their playoff hopes read disinterest. He sure as hell wasn't high-fiving anybody.
"Willie appeared tired and lethargic," Smyth said yesterday. "We were disappointed with his effort level and his body language appeared to show he was tired and disinterested.
"We gave him a couple of opportunities."
A couple? Try half a season. Yesterday Farley missed a team Christmas barbecue at team owner Mal Hemmerling's farm. "We were quite surprised he wasn't there," Sixers operations manager Paul Bauer said.
