WNBL adds Bendigo to league
Just in:
The Victorian city of Bendigo is set to enter the defencejobs Women's National Basketball League (WNBL) from next season after Basketball Australia's Board of Directors recommended a license be granted to Bendigo WNBL, a community based consortium. Not a lot of details beyond that at this stage.
The team will represent regional Victoria and besides games in Bendigo the team will play games in other regional areas such as Ballarat and Traralgon.
While enjoying good support from the local media, the Bendigo club is yet to be officially named but has already secured over half the compulsory corporate assistance necessary from local businesses as part of the license agreement. The State Government has also announced its support via the Regional Grant Scheme.I think female teams with "Lady" in the name are amusing, so what about the 'Bendigo Lady Bandits'? Or the 'Bendigo Brave Ladies'? The Bandicoots? Bendigo Beavers?
