If I told you before the season...

... that Darren Ng would be scoring within 5 or so PPG of Willie Farley, would you have believed me?

Go Ninja!

Willie Farley 17.6 PPG
Darren Ng 12.3 PPG

Have to say the conspiracy theories that have been bandied about are starting to get VERY redundant... The kid can play... Pretty damn impressed with what he has done...

I second the emotion...

GO NINJA!!!

Very good on the offensive end of the court but couldn't defend a bank from a group of robber.

Very poor defensive skills.

But a modicum of defensive prowess is FAR aesier to acquire than offensive prowess... He's still pretty young - i'll give him the benefit of the doubt on the defensive end - while he finds his feet in the NBL...

Jimmy, it's actually quite difficult for one man to defend a bank from a group of robbers, sure, if there's just one robber trying to take the bank down then Darren's ninja skills would see him through, but against an organised crime gang bank roberies are tough to stop. Have you not seen Point Break?

Are the 36ers players stats posted anywhere?

I am particularly interested in who is leading the team in rpm {rebounds per minute, 3pp, and tmp {turnovers per minute}.

Mind you, stats do not show a players ability to defend.

would love to know who was defending D-Mac last Sat night when he got 13 assists .. probably everyone had a go.

"would love to know who was defending D-Mac last Sat night when he got 13 assists .. probably everyone had a go."

Just because he got 13 assists doesnt mean he wasnt being defended well. Good defense on a player can often help the assists up, as they are forced to pass.

But having said that I wouldnt be surprised if the defense was non existent.

Often when great players are being defended well they

NG is flat-out awful.
This team has so many off guards and no point guard to lead them.
NG Can't even handle the ball against a trap, he is too weak to handle defense up the court.
It's scary to see him start..

Yes people stop being blind and looking at ppg as an indication of how well a player is doing. He struggles on defense but is getting better. He struggles against full court pressure defense.

In that game against melbourne everyone is saying he had a great game but he is the point guard and had 1 assist!!! I would rather see him get 2 points and 11 assist that way he would be getting everyone else involved and lifting their confidence which is the main role of a point guard e.g. Dmac.

King James - hes not a point guard.. merely thrust into the position because of Maher being out.

Ng is great . A real role model. No complaints, no ego , just hard work and willing to take the challenge and make the most .

Good to see that the 36'ers gave him a chance again this year.

Now let Sutton get the same chance and we could have a good combination for the future.

Time to move on and be positive .

Ng spent much of the early parts of the game on Dmac, and whilst his defense isnt the greatest he did a pretty good job in staying up in Dmac's face in a one man press, not really sure why phil went with this strategy but Dmac sure didnt appreciate the attention.

Sure he never got the steal or really stopped Dmac from doing what Dmac does, but he got him rattled on more than one occasion.

shuttlesworth, that is the team's nickname for him. His surname is Ng and they call him Ninj - notice the similarity?

And to all of those talking down his defense, I was simply saying that who would have expected 12 PPG from Ng and 17 PPG from Farley? If you want to bring defense into it, apply it to both parties!

'ninja defence' is a derogatory term used here in the States to describe a player who plays defence with their hands too much, and not enough with their feet or hands. i.e. a hacker.
It used to be called 'karate defence'.
Little brother Darren plays good defence! he just needs to lower his dribble in traffic closer to the ground.

OK, here's another one.

If I told you before the season that after five games, Joe Ingles would be averaging 10 PPG more than Jacob Holmes, and Holmes would be fit and playing, would you have believed me?

Or that Paul Henare would be doubling Aaron Olson's scoring output?

An interesting start to the season, that's for sure.

Interesting Isaac.... but more importantly (IMO) If i told you at the begining of the season that the 36ers would be 2nd bottom..25%...and are unlikely to make the finals (even when every man..his dog..and its fleas makes the finals) what would you have thought?

I know im outa town..but seems to me, the dragons situation has saved the 36ers from some very embarrasing questions. Like..what the hell is going on??

Ng's performances have been the highlight of the season so far for me.

As for Ninja, I remember that clip of the singlet presentation a few years ago where all the players came on and did a 5 second act. Darren acted as a ninja.

me, I might've believed that you know. Would've believed anything from 10th to 4th really.

Isaac, IF I TOLD YOU.. that there is more to a team than just scorers, that big men set picks for scorers, that too many so called centreS are shooting threes now in the ever self-serving need for recognition by fans and media alike, and that we might just as well have the players stand around the 3 point line and shoot outsiders for 48 minutes like a soccer shootout, and finally, that Perth, Melbourne,New Zealand, Dragons, and proably more, actually look for their big players, instead of using them as vacuum cleaners for poor selective shots made by the shooters,...WHAT WOULD YOU SAY?
The ref's are rewarding, more than I've ever seeen before, the player who cuts to the basket. But lets keep shooting over the heads of our big players, and we might win another one or two games!

Isaac, if I had have said before the season that Mark Nash would be starting, averaging less that 5ppg, and shooting less than 40% in EVERY category, you never would have believed me.

No, wait...

Obvious observations aside (Ng couldnt guard a shoe, doesnt like the press), i like him alot at shooting guard. still reckon he needs a more aggressive edge going strong at the hoop but lets wait and see what the season brings.

Thankyou Mutley! now just forward that information to phil and lets go with Adrian or . . . . I dont care just not Nash

Mutley...as someone said at the start of the thread, PPG doesnt mean everything.

Nash has in the past, as seems to be the case again this season, asked to focus more on the defense, and let the normal scorers (In a "normal" season, players like Maher, Farley, Horvath etc) do the scoring.

I dont know why everyone focuses on the PPG output of a player, when that may not be the role the coach wants from that player.
