Basketball conspiracy theories
Lots of folk believe nothing bad ever happens in the world without sinister background forces conspiring to make it so.
What are some of the great all-time basketball conspiracy theories?
My favourite: that for the 1985 draft, the NBA was desperate for much-hyped Patrick Ewing to go to the big-market and hype-loving NY Knicks.
The story goes that the ping-pong ball for the draft lottery belonging to the Knicks had been put in some form of fridge or freezer, making it cold to the touch and easy for David Stern to pull out first.
Others:
- the US getting screwed by those Commy-pinko-lefties from the USSR in the 1972 Olympics gold medal match;
- to get a gig with the Sixers, play for Sturt locally;
- Sam Cassell is an alien, or, at the very least, has an alien's head.
