Tonights game Sixers V Hawks

5 day recovery period. Hawks will be eager for their first win.

What's the key for tonights game? Will Nash see a full game tonight with the role to take out the big Sav again?

More importantly Ballinger is in excellent form i assume Horvath will have an even greater task in containing the shooting Big-Man.

Sixers really need to put some pressure on these decent shooters. Really speaking we should out-size Wollongong tonight especially if Sav does play the 4 spot.

Meaning every second attempt the hawks get on the offensive end Smyth should have them doing a Colgate. Or just brutally punish them :)

For all those interstate or not attending don't forget about ABC's online radio stream found here (Save file and open with Windows Media Player)

NBL Live Scoreboard (Hopefully it works ALL game)

Failing that Sportal is probably your next best bet for updates - Sportal Live Scores

And lastly considering Channel 9 has just become all of our favourite channel, better plug their live scores site as well

Sixers up by 1 at the break 56-55. Horvath seems to be dominating with 18 and 5, Hill has 8 and Ng has 6, looks like they're stepping up in Brett's absence. Farely's 6 assists is notable.

Looks like it's a 2 man show for the Hawks with Groves on 19 and Sav on 14.

Doesn't look like we've solved any defensive shortcomings during the week conceeding 86 points in 3 quarters, luckily our offense seems to be firing with 88 of our own.

Mastro 6 quick points to end the 3rd and give us momentum. Good spread of scorers for us Hill 10, Mastro 9, Nash 8, Ng 9, Farley 13, Copes 11 and Horvath 21.

Time to bring it home, crucial quarter for the season.

still really really lacked defence...far too many easy baskets around the basket and wide open 3s that they continually sank! disapointing really...6ers were in it for win with the crowd to bring them home, but just arent good enough i dont think...missed maher, and when hill was he played quite well...then he drags him for the rest of the game...i dont really understand his coaching at all

Hill's lack of minutes (despite a good game) and Copelands excess amount of minutes was quite annoying..

IMO Copeland should be getting 10 mins max. If he gets hot he will still score 12 points in those 10 mins - but if not he wont hurt the team with bad turnovers, bad defense and bad shot selection. 25 mins+ is just too much when we have a kid out there taking it hard to the hoop, and in need of court time.

Another very soft finish by a squad on paper that runs very deep. Whole side really fell away about midway through the 3rd quarter. Whats with the lack of loose ball effort they need a big kick up the..........................!

Have to agree with Kwest - I thought Hill played pretty well with the minutes he received apart from a few lucky breaks ('round the back dribble with a foul by Groves). Definitely deserved a bunch of Copeland's minutes.

Also, I've never really been a huge Nash fan, but made an effort to watch him off the ball tonight. The guy actually works pretty hard.

Missed Maher down the stretch to settle the team.

To leave Hill on the bench for as long as he did tonight and to have Copeland out there for what seemed an eternity, was an absolute disgrace.
Check the size of the crowd tonight, a fair indication that this town does not like what it is seeing.

a game that was there to be won
points the difference for 3/4ers then they allowed them to get 6points then 10 points ahead never looked to win it from there

why nash, hill and ng were sitting at stages baffled me too at least brad & darren were prepared to take it to the hoop i'd have to ask why if horvath was hot in the first half we were trying to shot the lights out from the 3 point line instead of going to something that was working.

Yes i have to agree that Brad Hill should have gotten much more court time than he was given. In that second quarter he was actually playing good DDD got a steal took it hard to the rack and drew fouls which were much needed in the third quarter where wollongong go ttheir first foul like 6 mins in to the third. Hill knows how to use is body and shield the ball well when he goes up for his shots which always draws fouls and that is exactly what we needed against a tough defensive team that likes to play hard D and throw there bodies on the line.... I just hope we can come god at the second half of the season if we seriously are gonna challenge, otherwise we will be lucky to hold onto 4th spot.

Wheeler did well when he was on but fitness is obviously an issue. We need another strong rebounder to complement Horvath, which is why Wheeler is so vauable to us when he reaches his full fitness.

And another note, Saville was awesome tonight, did evrything you could ask, score, rebound, steals, blocks, assists, awesome, and that cortez dunk and that behind the back through the legs dribble he did in the last with his right was pretty sweet as well.

I agree i would of liked to see more of Hill and a little less of Ng and Copeland, but i thought Ng was pretty good on offence, just gets abused abit defensively, and yea hill played great for the time he got, hope we can see atleast 20mins per game of him for the season!! Overall it was a better effort than the kings game, so improvement, but we should of won after leading for 3 quaters. I thought Cooper got too many minutes in the last quater, and i prob also would of replaced Ng, due to the need of extra defense. Much better from Farley, id just like to see him a bit more agressive on offense, and score around 20 at a good shooting pecentage, the rest of his game was good. Positives in the team has improved but 1-4 isnt a great start to the season, so heres hoping we can get the season rolling soon, and Maher is back for the next game, we missed him big time!! GO SIXERS!!

ummmm where we watching the same game tonight??? I thought it was very embarrassing. Our defense was terrible and our offense was painful to watch at times!

The line up Smyth puts out there most the time is very questionable and disturbing. Does he have a clue or what? Yet he seems to blame it on the refs when things dont go his way.

Our defense is the worst thing of all. Nash who is apparently our defensive specialist got torched by saville tonight who scored 35. Also Smyth decides to put him on Groves to slow him down but he scored almost every time on Nash. I believe if Nash played for any other team in NBL he would not start! Offensively he is a massively liability. He hesitates to take shots and he never drives/penetrates to either score or create for someone else. So really he has no reason to be out there. Why not give Majstrovich his minutes. He is by far a better player then Nash. He is actually one of very few sixers players that actually take it hard to the basket. Can someone tell how nash could be considered better then him? Its like the worse Nash plays the more minutes he gets.

Farelys defense is a joke also. He isnt putting enough pressure on the ball and that was exposed tonight with Groves making him look like a second rate import. Sure he might hit a few shots (when his not jacking up crap shots) and entertain the crowd but the real basketball supports see that his being lazy and really letting down the team defensively.

If you look at Ng's stats you would say he has done very well and is an asset to the team. Wrong! He is a massive liability! He should be getting 5-10 minutes at most! He is too small and as a result on the defensive end he gets abused. Im sure his a great guy, has achieved alot and is a kick ass ABL player but in the NBL there is no way he should be chosen over Brad Hill (Maybe if Brad moved to Sturt it might be different)! I think he would be lucky to secure a spot in any other team in the NBL yet we give him 20-35 minutes a night!!!

On a positive note I think Copeland had one of his better games tonight. All he needs is confidence and that will come along very shortly. Also Horvath continues to earn his money with consistent performances. The thing I like most about him is he continues to play hard the whole game and actually puts in the effort unlike some in the team which are just along for the ride it seems.

We are now 1-4 and facing Brisbane next week! Things need to change We cant keep persisting with players that continue to let us down. Even if their stats look good, look at the bigger picture!

Last week Shawn Redhage and Mark Worthington killed us. The week before that it was Marquin Chandler. Last night Glen Saville had 35. These guys are all small forwards. Who is our starting small forward? Mark Nash. Nash's 10 points last night take his season average to 5ppg. Opposition starting small forwards are averaging more than 20 ppg game against us. As long as he is there, we are dead.

What the hell is up with Willie Farley? I am about five minutes away from joining the ever growing movement that thinks that he should be cut and replaced with a bigger player.

It would be really great to know from Phil Smyth why he took Brad Hill out of the game when he was playing so well.

So great, Brisbane next week. Well if last season was anything to go by we should have a Sam Mackinnon highlight show (another small forward) and some crisp 5 on-5 off substitutions to look forward to!

I was just in outrage as to why we did not persist to give horvath the ball in the low block. The guy scored 14pts in the first quarter and then hardly touched the ball. GIVE THE GUY THE FRIGGIN BALL!!!!!!!

The only two players on the 36ers line-up who can penetrate and get to the basket are Maher and Hill.

Ng, Farley, Copeland, Nash and to a degree Majstrovic are more spot up shooters.

I hate being critical of Farley when the main reason for his decline is most likely coaching/playing role related moreso than any lack of game on his part but I am completely with Mutley on this one in that we would look a hell of a lot better with a bigger SF import capable of matching up with the Savilles of the league. IE insert Rossell Ellis or Kevin Freeman into our line-up and suddenly our rotations would look a lot better.

You could then give Hill the minutes he needs at starting SG. Copes, Ng, Maher can all play SG and using an import spot on your least needed position is wasteful.

Nash (and the group of SGs asked to fill in at SF) has been getting absolutely destroyed. You could live with the 5ppg if he was shutting anyone down but he is currently 1-4 as are the 36ers.

I have no doubt that if Smyth gave Farley a Groves' like role he would average 20+ points per game but for the last couple of seasons it has seemed that Smyth has tried to get Farley to play a Darnell Mee type role of being more of a distributor and giving him the toughest defensive match-up rather than have him go out there trying to score 30points. You can live with Farley's mistakes on defence if he gives up 20 points but scores 30 himself. But when he is getting 15ppg he is a liability.

Maybe I am wrong, but the same 'disinterested Farley' that some have mentioned could quite as easily be a 'frustrated Farley' following his coach's instructions.

The best example was last night when Joyce was guarding Farley. Instead of attacking the rookie, Farley played unselfishly and didn't take advantage of the biggest match-up on the court.

I feel Farley has been playing far to passively most of last season and this one so far. I have to admit, I also thought that maybe it came down to a coaching instruction.

Some players arent supposed to be passive. He is best suited when he is attacking and making things happen... exactly what Groves was doing last night.

Yea id like to see Farley given the green light ala 2001-02 season, i reckon we woulda beaten he Hawks and he woulda come close to matching Groves's scoring, i think he is being a bit passive and too unselfish, i wouldnt of minded him taking 20 shots last night!! lets hope he gets the green light soon!!! Could farley play SF with Nash??? leaving Copes and Hill to share SG, which would give Hill more minutes which i would like to see.

IMO no way Farley can play 3 man - far too undersized. For eg, if he was 3 man yesterday Sav would have backed him down or posted him up and scored every time.
He has to play 2, and get Mastro in the 3 IMO

its just seems obvious to everyone here that hill should be taking most of coops minutes surely the coaching staff cannot be that blind. 10 points in 11 minutes is all that needs to be sent. Was also very unhappy about the ball not going to horvath and though farley should have been demanding the ball late when we were down by 3-5 points before the game got away. A side note great worked y Ng the guy seemed to be the only one doing anything on the offensive side in the last, and was basically on 1 leg with a hamstring strain i would guess.
