European club defeats 76ers

http://www.nba.com/news/Sixers_Winterthur_061005.html

The NBA Europe Live tour has produced an upset with Winterthur defeating the 76ers be 6 points. No box scores available, but the Sixers were travelling with a full roster. Would be interesting to see what rules the match was played under. I'd assume international?

That's crazy. It seems the NBA is eating some humble pie of late in a big way.
Couldn't happen to a nicer country

Spurs won by 25pts I think, but the team they were playing wasn't even in the EuroLeague.

Its gonna be a looong year for the 76ers.

To be honest - i reckon that most top Euro Teams could beat non-upper echelon NBA teams no problems... and give Upper Echelon ones a real scare at times... Why do you reckon the McDonald World Club Champs are gone... In the 80's and 90's this was a way for the NBA to foist its "World Championship" hegemony on the world... No more... Imagine if Spurs or Miami got done by Spanish, Greek, or Russkie league team... ain't no amount of spin to sugarcoat that... (A' la USA basketball)

It appears that the "Winterthur" club just happened to be FC Barcelona ... just one of the top Spanish clubs... actually one of the top European clubs full stop, losing to CSKA Moscow in the European Final 4. No shame losing to them... IMHO only the top 5 clubs in the NBA would be able to defeat them.

Looks like the games are played under NBA rules rather than international, after all it is the NBA Europe Live tour.

This quote suggests the NBA three was used:

"As a team, Barcelona hit 8-of-19 from beyond the arc (which was 39 inches deeper than they're used to), a .421 clip."

and if they're using an NBA court in a competition branded as an NBA event then they almost certainly will be playing under NBA rules.

That's one less excuse the NBA can throw out there about their demise on a global stage. I think it was Mark Cuban who was quoted after Greece knocked out USA saying something along the lines of "If it were played on NBA courts and with NBA rules they wouldn't have got close". Perhaps it's not so cut and dry.

The guy Navarro that did the damage for FC Barcelona against the 76ers was huge for Spain in the WC final. He's unquestionably NBA material.

Not so much a demise as much as the rest of the world gaining ground Billo. Sixers got done by a lot of NBA teams as well last season and I'm not expecting anything different. If the league is heading downhill fast tho maybe some day you could be saiying, That guy AI did the dameage for the sixers, definitely European League material.

Navarro was drafted a few years ago by the Washington Wizards. They should definitely bring him over to the US. The problem might be that he's too similar to Gilbert Arenas however. Alternately, they could just have two scoring PGs and run riot on the other teams
