Wheeler returns to training today

A lot of people have showed a bit of interest and concern in Wheels' status recently. You'll be happy to hear that Brett will hit the court today for some light work.

Smyth reckons he's ahead of his rehab schedule. And as a bonus, Horvath and Coops did well at the Blitz, so we have the paint covered.

Thursday should be a good test, going up against Rogers, Brown, Rono, Redhage etc.

Remind me someone, what exactly was his injury again? I thought it was a hamstring strain. Hasn't he been out for about 6 weeks now? That's a fair absence for a hamstring strain isn't it?

Any physios/sportsmed people who can shed some light?

hammy is a 3-4 week injury for an AFL footballer so I would think this time should cover a basketballer also. Depends if he's had a history of hamstring injuries, then it good be 6-8 weeks

I did my Hamstring in quite badly playing Footy back in May. Even heard it go twang as it happened and I was on crutches for a few days. I came back to play basketball after 5 weeks out thinking it felt fine now and it went again in the first minute with just a simple jog down the court. Not quite as bad as previously but enough to make me sit out for another 6 weeks.
Basic rule I have now been told is once it feels 100% at least give it another week.

There are three hamstring muscles in each leg. Wheeler tore the least important of all three off the bone.
It was deemed 'better' to avoid surgery and leave the hammy floating in there. nb: This hammy is often used as a replacement ligament in knee reconstructions, so plenty of people have played without them.

I reckon he will be at least two weeks away from playing maybe three weeks.
there is no point rushing back

Hamstrings are off major concern because too many atheletes return too soon and re injure the muscle/muscle group.

The rehab duration for this type of injury depends on the level of damage and the quality of rehab.

Major sporting franchises Crows/Power etc spend ridiculous amounts of money on facilities/staff and equipment to aid the athelete and their injuries.

Teams like Western Magic probably are lucky to supply some 'Strapping Tape' and kind words.
