Who is the worst Sixer ever?
Just on a lighter note, who do you all think has been the worst player to pull on a sixers uniform?

Jeff Brown in Dave Claxton's last days... so bad that none of the team would pass to him.

Paris McCurdy, he was the slowest import to ever take to the pine.
I think that Kym Taylor's almost dunks in warm ups to Christopher cross music is etched in my min for ever.

Think we are all forgetting about someone.......Todd Gower would have to be easily the worst sixer of all time, Bell not too far behind.
Definately agree that Kym Taylor was a joke. Jerry Denard was lucky to play as much as he did, even tho it was during the sixers worst time in history......Denard is certainly the worst player ever to start in a sixers game.
Scalzi was another waste of good pine also.

I was thinking Dennard but he was that bad that I liked him!

Dan Clausen Mk2 slow and proved why he retired years earlier....he was part of a very bad team!

Guys, what about the best Sixer ever? Either for all-time service to the club or best player outright?
All this "worst ever" business is a little negative and overdone.

Best sixer.....without a doubt.......the chairman of the boards.....u know who

Speaking of whom, the Chairman of the Boards was out tonight at the premiere of Hellboy.

As much as I love and respect Mark, I would have to say best Sixer ever would be Darnell Mee.
If I could name a top 5, it would be Mee, Davis, Maher, Cattalini, Pearce.
They make my top5 for varying reasons, but all were excellent for the club in their (or during their current) years.

Rob Rose?
Yogee you've said before that you haven't actually been a Sixer fan for all that long. Did you see Davis, Pearce even McKay in their prime?

No one will ever be able to sway me on the best. Davis all the way.All star five however is another story. so many great players. Not to sure about anyone before about 1985 tho.
Firstly in the bigs categlorie, obviously Davis, then others up for selection would be Bill Jones, Orlando Phillips(can't believe we let him go), Rees(3 championships)not sure who else. Bradtke, wheeler and Rodgers all became players after leaving the sixers. Kevin Brooks deserves a mention but wouldn't make my team.Mayley's best days were as a Giant(pre sixers).
Smaller players it would be hard not to pick the 3 time championship winning captain in Maher, Al Green, Rose, Mee, Wood,Butch Hayes(kept great player in what was a pretty lean era for the sixers) are the front runners.Pearce, Ninnis,Cattalini and Mckay deserve a mention. All fantastic players but not superstars. Smyths best days were as a Cannon.
O.k if it was picked on position here is my five
c- Bill Jones
PF-Mark Davis (vice Captain)
SF-Rob Rose
SG-Maher (Captain)
PG-Mee
Bench (post 1985)
Rees
Orlando Phillips
Cattalini
Al Green
Pearce (vice captain)
Butch Hayes
Sapwell(the missing piece in this years sixers championship hopes).
Very unlucky
Ninnis
Mckay
Hopefully Farley can make himself an unlucky ommission by the end of this year.
Look forward to hearing some discussion on this one. especially on some of the oldies....Wood etc

No negativity intended Isaac, just funny to think back at some shockers that wore the uniform.
Best ever I would say Maher and Davis, too close to call.

If you're going to go Best Sixer EVER, then maybe there should be criteria... perhaps the player has to have played atleast 5 seasons with the Sixers.
As much as I believe Mee is the most under rated player ever to hit the court (in the mould of Leroy), and my favourite player in the league, how can anyone go past Davis for his tour of duty at Adelaide.
The fact that he never went any where else through thick and thin shows great pride.
Maher would be next for the sole reason that Davis has retired, Maher has not.

Worst ever: toss up between Gower and Bell.
Best: Toss up between Davis and Maher (Maher has really stepped up in finals series also from memory he has two Larry Sengstock medals???)

i recon the worst sixers to ever get a game would have been blake truslove and daniel cioffi.
give bell some time he will be a good player in a couple of years
Isaac
Years ago
That Cioffi is playing in Italy and Truslove in New Zealand indicates they aren't too bad. Truslove, for one, would've been a decent option in place of either Cooper or Rees this season, in my opinion.
WITHOUT a doubt Todd Gower is by far the worst sixer ever AND TO FUDGEMAN, that cioffi and trustlove WHO are both from west(looks like someone is jelous and hates west) are overseas playing top b ball somewhere, this must mean their pretty good, the sixer salery cap is hopless i bet that would be getting paid more overseas
mat illman, my gosh the worst basketball player evr far out he was bad

fudgeman? wat are you talking about did you see how good trustlove played last saturday, you got know idea mate, hes like 6 10 shoots well and been top rebounder a few times....

Gower, without a doubt
and im not seeing why anyone isnt including John Rillie in the sixers top 10
Lastly, Cioffi is only playing in Italy coz he was assured a job and his family is from there. Id be surprised to see if he is playing even close to top level over there
but still, he has it over gower in every department

Leave Gower alone! Imagine how he would feel if he read this!
He is a hard working, really great guy.
Matt Illman is also a great guy, and no way the worst to don the uniform.
Jerry Denard on the other hand...that guy was a classic

You seriously think Gower and Illman are the worst !! HA HA what planet are you on ???
Im not a Sturt player or 'fan' but you clowns must be joking . LOL. Illman took time to develop but became a fantastic spark off the bench and took on some tough Defensive jobs.
As far as Gower goes .. he is "technique" wise one of the best players South Australia has trained ( SASI). Watch some tape of the guy and you will see he is "fundamentals" better than most. I would say if he were 6'7+ he would be far more effective at NBL level and a good 'role' player. Todd is ok at 6'4 but could be good at a more competetive NBL height.
While i think its a bit shit that we are canning Sixers players.. Jason Williams (and this is a testament to me not being a biased sturt fan ) would be up there with the "worst" as he never lived up to his potential IMO.
Jo Jo English was all hype and no heart too ..

Matt Illman kicked a couple for West in the SANFL on the weekend. Any chance of him doing a Dropper Brogan and making the AFL?

Moses,
I seem recall Matt being invited to preseason training with the Power last year (not sure, could be wrong), so perhaps they see some potential?
Is still pretty raw though.
Kym Taylor

Gower "fundamentals better than most". You are kidding me aren't you??? I have seen the guy brick it over the rim and hit the other side of the backboard at ABA level. Do they teach shooting at all??? Considering he shoots all day with the sixers, why the hell can't he hit an open jumpshot?????
There are plenty of ABA players who would be a worthy replacement.
Eastern Lowland Gorilla

He is one of the best ABA players. The step from ABA to NBL is huge, and all players can't be expected to succeed.
But anyway! Worst players ever would have to go to Chris Blakemore and Jojo English!
Best players ever!

SG Maher

in my short memory jason williams never did anything and absolutely killed aba so that was pathetic. gower has got to be up there he doesnt even do well in aba really. and really paul rees this year...he was a joke honestly he ran like an elderly and crippled wilderbeast
