Dickel suspended

GUARD Mark Dickel has been suspended from New Zealand's two-match basketball series with Qatar after testing positive for cannabis use.

Dickel was randomly tested after a Tall Blacks' Test with Australia in Napier last month, and his "A" sample has produced a positive result, Basketball New Zealand (BBNZ) said today.

It said while his "B" sample has not yet returned from the testing laboratory, Dickel has admitted the offence and accepted violating the Tall Blacks' team code.

Jokes can start now guys...

Propose the "high" league. No one plays coaches or officiates before either 3 cones and or blood alcohol greater than 0.05. Apply to all sports and we get "the sociable games."This should be an off shoot of the olympics.
Wonder who would be the worlds best pissed and stoned athlete?

Doesn't that make it worse for the Boomers? They can't even beat a team on drugs? Maybe cannibis is performance enhancing!

Maybe the Boomers should claim the trophy back, citing illegal drug use. Wouldn't be the first time this year that a person / team winning a title has had his/her/ their championship taken away from them for illegal drug use... and would teach them a lesson.

while an illegal substance, i doubt in the game of basketball cannibis would be truly considered (not just classed) as a performance enhancing drug.

Do you think it will make the Boomers feel a sense of satisfaction in winning that way - I don't think so.........
John it would not have helped the performance plus it is not fair to blame the rest of his team.....

SPORTS ILLUSTRATED:
McLain reveals his cocaine addiction: March 16, 1987

Villanova's win over Georgetown in the 1985 NCAA championship game was one of the greatest upsets in the history of sports. That achievement, alas, was forever tainted by the SI cover story published two years later that detailed the cocaine habit of the Wildcats' point guard, Gary McLain.

Among other revelations, McLain, whom SI paid $35,000 to have his story ghost-written for the magazine by Lexington Herald-Leader reporter Jeffrey Marx, said he was wired on coke during Villanova's Final Four victory over Memphis State as well as during its ceremonial visit to the WHITE HOUSE.
