---------------

HOUSTON -- A former NBA star was arrested Friday for allegedly possessing an illegal substance, officials told KPRC Local 2.

Shawn Kemp, 36, was arrested in Houston early Friday morning and charged with misdemeanor possession of marijuana. Kemp allegedly had two ounces or less of the drug in his possession.

Kemp was booked into the Harris County jail and released a short time later on $500 bond.

Kemp's court appearance is scheduled for July 28.

Kemp retired from the NBA in 2003 and now resides in Houston.

The Seattle Sonics drafted Kemp with the 17th pick in the 1989 NBA draft. Kemp played for the Sonics, Cleveland Cavaliers, Portland Trailblazers and Orlando Magic during his 14-year career. Kemp appeared in six NBA All-Star games and was a member of the gold-medal winning Dream Team II at the 1994 World Championships of Basketball.

An unfortunate hiccup in his attempts to make a comeback. Does anyone see that comeback still happening?

Forget it... he's done.

We all just have to chuck on "Superstars" on VHS... fast forward to the Shawn Kemp section... and watch him throw down thunderous dunks to the tunes of Pearl Jam..

That is how i wanna remember him.

even if he did still come back he would be a shadow of his former self like jordan at the wizards except worse....maybe like oliver miller with the timberwolves

did you guys see him with his last come-back at the Magic? He was a shadow of his former self, even his shadow weighed an extra 50 pounds.

Its a shame for newspapers everywhere that he made bail - otherwise "Reignman arraigned" would have been gold! Pure gold!

He was a legend. Even if he could compete in the NBA now it wouldnt be worth it cos no one would remember him how he was. Everyone knowds MJ wasnt anything his last seasons, he should NEVER have come back. Maybe if Kemp wants to play in a weak league like the British Basketball League or in the Phillipines and dominate he could do that. Let him smoke his bongs! jesus! it should be legal anyway!

hurley, im guessing you smoke "bongs" but if the government made it leagal then you and your lil pot head mates would not be able to afford "BUDS"since the government would then put tax on top of your average $25 bag! stupid thing to say !!!!

Shawn Kemp being accused of marijuana possession is as obvious as a priest being accused of praying

gold MW, could have used a different term instead of praying there though...
Hurley, you are killing me..MJ still lit up for 40 and 50 point games at the age of 40-41, saying he wasn't anything is a bit harsh!

news just in... Benny the Bull, Kemp and Rashard Tucker all looking to move to SA due to relaxed marijuana laws......
