Junior ABA Season???

I come home from nationals the other day thinking what we could have a nationals every week. I worked it out and it would be about 25,000 for a junior ABA season (Ball park figure). Does anyone think this could happen, and how would teams accomidate with these finances???

What you want to do is simply not feasable. There's not enough cash in basketball to make it work.

Unless you've got deep pockets and can bank roll it, it wouldn't happen.

I think it would be a great idea to have junior aba. all the div one teams to play prior to the ABA womans game and then hang around to follow the seniors.

all other divisions should then be played as a domestic comp on a friday night.

You would be crazy to think you could start up a 'Junior NBL'

Where will the money come from for transport etc. You definately won't be making much from ticket sales.
Plue to be the best the kids will have to train more, making them choose between an education or basketball.

The junior ABL before seniours games would be alright, although some of the talented juniours, especially in womens play juniour and seniour so that might not work out, plus many wouldn't want to give up every Saturday night.

This could be a monthly thing like once a month. Team train say every second weekend for state teams, so this could help their lead up 2 nationals and make it a much more competitive nationals. The AFL and NBA is run by sponsership, dont you think this would be the same. Or even if there joined with there local ABL mens teams. Also making their mens teams stronger. And if its the best playering in the country playing each other ppl would come and watch a good game of basketball.
And with the junoir senior thing, players would play seniors be4 juniors. But a lot of player wouldn't be playing ABL for mens cause that is a much stronger competition

Tas,

Numerous teams in the NBL lose money each year. The budget for SEABL team who have only a couple of road trips a year is over $100K.

Just to go to 1 Nationals costs most players $2000 each year. If yuo go to 10, that would be $20K per person.

But good luck to ya! Go and get some sponsors!

PS The NBL struggles to get sponsors.

Its not 100k actually tas. Strongly followed Victorian SEABL team can run at a 20k budget and some of the sydney teams a 10 k budget. That is just travel and court hire etc. not taking into account players salarys. I think it is a great idea to have a junior ABA. In NSW and Vic there is youth leagues which is under 21s basically. This is a very high level of basketball and acts as the stepping stone from juniors mens in these states. I think the best idea would be to have club/ABA championship exactly like the mens. If you win your division or state u go and plays in the finals. Great idea but the funds and planning that needs to happen to take it off the ground are a long way away but BA have thought about it.

Love the idea about junior div1 playing before the ABA. It obviously could only be done with our local comp. Transport would not be an issue as parents are already ferrying players all over Adelaide.

If some parents or players did not want to commit to every Sat nite then fine, thats when you bring up a div 2.

This might be a good idea.....
when petrol prices drop, when BASA drops the prices for juniors to play, when Clubs realise that fees are too high, when I dont have to pay an arm and a leg to watch my kids play....at each stadium they play at.....
