Is it too late to add to the State team? Fitness and injuries cannot be a problem now.

Congrats to sturt teams on wins, and west for the GF appearance.

Hangin Round, I am pretty sure the teams have been named, so unless someone is injured, then yes it is too late, and if they are, i am pretty sure one of the already named reserves will be chosen.

That makes 4 medals for Sturt in this years Classics, including 2 Golds. I would say that it is the best result by a club from SA in any given year.

Does this mean that Sturt are getting better and better? First they won State Champs by a large margin. And now this. What needs to be done by othr clubs to catch up?

Taking home 4 medals from the Classics (2 gold, 2 bronze) is a great result for Sturt. The only other club that won 4 medals was Dandenong (2 Gold, 1 Silver, 1 Bronze).
Well done Sturt!

Good results. However given Sturt u16 finished third in a club competition it does not go well for our state U16 chances when over half the team is from sturt.

Could have easily finished second if the draw had been different!

I think that would be a good result for a state team, don't you?

They dont relate.
Paul is an excellent coach and he is going to get every last bit out of that State team, dont start knocking Sturt for what was an incredible weekend,I for one aspire to reach the standards that are being set by Sturt!

The achievement over the weekend is the best single club result from an SA team that I can recall.
They are doing the best job of any in Australia and we should credit that, instead of putting them down.
Scott Butlers boys have won everything in the last year.Australian Champions,Summer season,State champs, and now the Classics.
I really think that both U/14's could do the double and win the Aussie champs in Girls and boys!!!
The work to achieve this happened 12 months ago and so the have planned for success.

Bagging these guys is Bullshit! With these teams, we can look forward to producing some International std players of the future

85109,

On the surface you have a point, but remember that 3 of the top 4 teams were Sandy (half of Vic), Sturt (half of SA) and ACT. It was more than just "club standard". Add in good performances from West and Fville and our boys have a real good chance in a couple of weeks time. This was our best Classic performance as a State for a long time in an age group we traditionally struggle. Also the overall standard of this age group across Australia is very good, some say are saying the best in the last 10 years, so there is little reason to be pessimistic.

I am 85109. If you read my original post I was not having a go at sturt at all. Perhaps I had too high an expectation of them for the weekend given their state team representation; not that finishing third is anything to sneeze at!

I just dont think people appreciate how very hard it is to win one of these things!!!

With three way ties , tiredness , children who are anything but consistent, living away from home , parents, interstate refferees, this is a damm hard thing to win.
Matt and Scotty and the players are a credit to us all.

anon #85109,

Do you realise that the only team to beat the Sturt U/16 Boys has 4 Vic Metro players and 1 Vic Country player. And that they also beat the ACT State team by 30+. And that they were without 1 of their starters who injured his ankle during the tournament.

Well done boys, and good luck in the comming weeks. anon #85109

Well done to the all the teams at classics, south australian teams are providing a little more competition for the victorian teams which is great to see. Congratulations to the west team. For a team that finished 4th in state champs and werent playing good basketball at the time did a great job to pull it together and make it to the final. bad luck about the result though. Its good to watch a team that plays well together and doesnt have to rely on one person to win games.
Excellent stuff girls

West made the final because they played an excellent tournament. All the girls banded together and played a great TEAM effort throughout the weekend. No one player carried the team as each girl supported one another and together they proved just how good they can be. Every SA team had their chance to make the final, let's not forget that west actually drew Dandenong in the minor rounds and quite conceivably had one of the hardest draws. So rather than questioning why west made the grand final, perhaps you should be congratulating their performance.

There will be no more discussion of the West U18 team due to ongoing breaching of forum guidelines from players of the team. Stop embarrassing yourselves and your club. As a penalty, a number of posts in this thread concerning the team have been removed. You had been warned, so deal with it.
