Summerton to miss next WNBL season
I think a massive loss to the Lightening. But we can only wish Laura luck and hope she has enormous success. A top kid, hard shoes to fill.
Summerton and Snell to miss next WNBL season
Price Attack WNBL stars and Australian Opals, Laura Summerton and Belinda Snell (both Olympic silver and Commonwealth gold medal winners) have signed one year contracts with Italian clubs for the European winter season, ruling them out of the 2006/07 WNBL season.
Summerton signed with Taranto, who finished in fifth spot in the Italian A1 League in 2006, and Snell will play with Penny Taylor's former club, La Spezia, who finished in eighth place in 2006.
Tipping off in October, both athletes will forgo Price Attack WNBL contracts with their Australian clubs (Summerton Adelaide and Snell Sydney) to take up the lucrative deals.
"These offers were too good for the girls to turn down," Warren Craig of Titan Sports Management said. "They have managed to sign deals at the upper end of the range we thought they would land in their debut years."
Both Summerton and Snell are currently in the US playing in the WNBA, the world's best women's basketball competition. They are both hopeful to make the Price Attack Opals team for the World Championships to be played in Brazil this September.
