State champion club was one of the clubs that you weren't good enough to play div 1 at.

Sorry that doesn't really cut it down by much.

It was a Sabre Slam.

Love it! Great job Sturt and West boys for an online "club song"!!

Best game of the weekend (sorry to 20 boys final!) - U12 boys final. Super game!!
An absolute nail-baiter, great job to Owen Green and the Southern boys who took it right up to a very, very good team. Well done to the Sturt boys too for showing "some sort" of composure down the stretch of a tight game - something they hadn't experienced all year. Also well done to a loud group of parents - all should be proud as all boys played hard and fair.
To Owen and Paul, well done.

Again, another dominant performance from the Sabres.

When will the other clubs work out that they will not compete with the Sturt whilst Sturt puts more effort into their junior program. Looks like the rotatnio policy for coaching is converting into total dominance.

I wonder is some people still believe that this is just some sort of cyclical effect. Especially considering Sturt do not have any consestion from BASA. Or whether they are ready to conseed that it is hard work and commitment that gets it done.

Anon (81617),

Obviously their in club efforts do play an important part in their achievements. But at the same time I also believe there is some degree of cyclical nature to the results. If they have the perect solution then you would assume that all grades would dominate particularly at the younger age groups. In the girls they "failed" to make the U12/18/21 GF's. If the system is so good why does it seem to come through much better on the boys side. It might be the cyclical nature of the talent coming through...or at least we can hope!

Well done Sturt, #1 again. We have proven time and again why we are ranked the #1 club in the state. The coaching and dedication shown at all levels of the club prove we are in deed the champion club.

Can I please say that some (NOT ALL BUT A SMALL GROUP OF 4 FATHERS) Sturt parents should be ashamed of the way they represented themselves and our club at Wayville yesterday. To anyone from any other club that took offence at these regular morons I hope you understand that 99% of parents at Sturt are not represented by these "fathers".

The team that these "fathers" are involved with put in a flawless performance yesterday and will take out the national title (they are that good); however these "fathers" should take a long hard look at the way their girls won with grace and dignity and actually learn from their children. I am not directly involved in their particular age group, but most at our club will know who I am talking about.

Well done the Blue baggers. Keep your eye on the old double blues!

Why is it that in order to make yourselves seem better you sturt people must mock the other clubs?

It is demeaning and gives rise to the ill feeling many have for what is a great sa club.

By all means crow about your exc results, but comments like:
"When will the other clubs work out that they will not compete with the Sturt whilst Sturt puts more effort into their junior program" are inapropriate in this day and age.
All clubs are different and should remain so!
I reckon the North result is very good, If they continue to improve Nwd will struggle to keep a pace.

I would expect forrestville to be a little disapointed in their reults though!!

Not to detract from the emotion and the win by West yesterday but i've always felt that the "club song" was something best left to footy teams where i believe it is more traditional.

Proud they should be - agree. I know some of them well. Behave like they do, they should not. It is a game of kids basketball and being humble is a great personable attribute to have. The kids themselves are magnificent as is the coaching staff.

Well done girls and to Scott Buts and the 14 boyz who gutzed out a great win without one of their starters.

Come on the classics and Nationals

What's wrong with singing the club song. It was for them and their supporters, no-one else. They were not flaunting the win just soaking up an amazing win.

Thanks woftam. Praise on this forum is a rare commodity. The boys (and their coach) are absolutely exhausted but happy for winning the title.

I think its great that West have a club song and sing it proudly, as we do ours. Tradition has to start somewhere. Just don't sing it in the faces of your opponent after a game. North West Tassie did that to us at Nationals a few years ago and we haven't forgotten.

There is nothing wrong with expressing club and team pride esepcially after a big win. Some people say its too football, but we as a sport can learn much from the camaraderie of football culture.

Did they sing the song in the rooms or on the court?

Who says that a club song has to be a football tradition. A couple of clubs have taken a great morale boosting and team bonding concept and applied it to basketball I say good on them. I'm not sure what the case was on the weekend but singing the song should be left for the changerooms only.

In reply to woftam 81620. I agree that all clubs have some parents that need to take a chill pill and get over the fact that we are dealing with JUNIOR sports.

The point I am making is that our club have a cartell of 2-4 dads in a particular junior age group that do the same kind of thing MOST of the time. I (thankfully) only have to cross their path 2-3 times a year, normally at carnivals, but you normally know were thay are sitting as soon as you hit the stadium.

As a mother of 2 small children under the age of 6 why do I or any other supporters have to constantly put up with this sort of behaviour. I was so concerned that I had to move from the general vicinity of these fathers as my youngest son was upset, by morons from our own club, barraking for the same team as us. What is wrong with these so called "men"?

I was sure that 1 or 2 parents from the "other club" where going to say somthing to these 4 morons, but to my astonishment & their credit they did not say a word.

These "gentlemen" need to take their kind of "support" to the local rugby or football game where it belongs.

Our girls won this particular match, and won it well. It dissapoints me to say it but the other teams parents walked out of Wayville with their Pride intact and heads held high.

To the 4 fathers in question at Wayville last night. You have a great bunch of girls with talent to burn. Please, for the clubs & your daughters sake try to show some humility in winning, even if you have to fake it. It is amazing how quickly the tide can & one day will turn on you.

Why would a wife sit and listen to her husband carry on like this?

I recon I know the "fathers" (term described loosley) that u r talking about.I was not at Wayville last nite but I garantee one of the 3-4 so called fathers has blonde hair and seems to be the ring leader. I might add when he isnt with his other honchos u dont hear a peep out of him. This has to be U14 Div 1 Girls.

I love to hear people cheer on our team, but they go way over the top & I mean way over.

My Dad asked them to keep it down a little at the easter carnival (keep in mind we are all barracking for the same team)and got howled down with "we aint sayin nuthin against the other team" & "we are just barracking for our kids"

I cant deny any of their answers, what I can say is that they are non stop from the first tip off to the last buzzer, very very loud & dont like to be told they r doing anything wrong.

I have heard opposition people question their constant "barracking" before and I can tell you it is the only time I have ever felt sorry for the opposition. As these guys sit together in a group of 3-4 they can take on all comers and rule the roost. Together they are a bunch of smart asses, individually they are mice.

To the farthers in question, U R bullies. Pull ur heads in. The best thing about bullies is that they always get it in the end. My only hope is that their daughters dont have to witness it.

Barrack for ur club, but keep in mind how you are coming across to the other team.

U R a disgrase to out team, keep it in check or move on.

I have to say well done to the West under 20 men for a great game- it's just a pity from my point of view that Southern, who had your measure all game, didn't win. However, I agree with most of the other posters in saying that I think the club song should be for the changerooms, not right in the faces of the oppostion and its loyal, shattered spectators. Sure the footy teams may sing their song on odd occasions while still on the ground, but look at the size of the ground and the resulting distance there can be between the teams. On a basketball court and sidelines, there is no escape.
Some of the great players from Southern are only first years so next years State Champs- look out!!!

Unbelievable that a bunch of Forrestville people would feel the need to come onto this site and have a go at a bunch of parents for cheering.

Well considering who their coach is and who the parents of that team are it's not that hard to understand. Also that there has long been a rivalry shows that that Forrestville group are bad losers. Maybe you guys need to take the high road and not act like a bunch of wingers on a forum.

Sour grapes, taste the same any way you try to eat them.

The Forrestville crowd was loud on their first basket and I for one do not doubt that it would have continued had they been leading.

The boys did not sing their song to demean their opponents. these boys are mostly 2nd years who have made finals of state champs many times, but never cracked the big one. They were thrilled to finally win that elusive medal before their junior time was up. They had their senior mentors there cheering them on, and the song was sung right down their end of the court, to their supporters. So let them sing, who are you to take that from them. If more teams showed a little more club spirit and a little less bitching the sport would be better for it.

If (#81719)bothered to read my post I AM A STURT PLAYER, What, do you want? my name, div, number, adress, or what?. My whole family follows the blues. My mum does a lot of work for the club. Be that as it may we do not need the same dad's week in week out stirring up a whole stadium just because their kids are doing better than some of our other teams. Our other teams normally have to play at the same venue as well.

1 winning team earns credit for that team; however 1 case of bad sportsmanship discredits the WHOLE club.

As one of THOSE forestville parents i clapped your sturt girls as much as i cheered for my daughters team.
I therefore take your comments personally and would be happy to discuss it further face to face should you ever find the courage to
put your name to your words.
Also why do you need to bring our coach into it-what is your claim to fame, simply that you have a daughter who plays better than you ever could.

Thats funny #81719. I was at the game in question and the only people that made idiots of themselves was a very small bunch of men hooting & hollaring for Sturt who at their age should have known better.

It was clearly their intention to stick it up the Eagles girls on court (brave seeing how they were 12 y.o girls)and all eagles parents watching within earshot. Im 100% positive that eagles parents were not impressed, but did not see or hear any comments directed to the 4 knobheads.

Who ever the brave fathers were, are u proad of yourselves now? I can honestly say u were a disgrace to your club, your daughters team and your families.

An earlier post said it all. Take a leaf out of your daughters books and act as they did on the court.

Here, here Talbot.

It easy for an opposition supporter to claim "sour grapes" to a team that they so comprehensivly beat; however I have not read 1 post on here from an eagles supporter or parent bagging your girls.

Put on your glasses and actually read some posts Mr #81719, supporter of the year.

I think the sour grapes were directed at you from within your own club!!!!!

The under 14 div 1 Sturt girls did an awsome job & will more than likley continue to do so in the future. We will definatley be watching some of these girls play for their state & possibly Aust in the future. Its a pity that such a fine team is let down by the one factor they cant control.... Ugly Parent Syndrome.

Take a look at yourself blondy. You are a disgrace.

Can not believe the comment along the lines of clob songs are OK at footy because of the space. Go to a Crows game and try not to hear their song around the ground after a win. Where should basketball teams sing (if they feel inclined)? I have not seen many suitable rooms for players and supporters to gather. The honour does noy come every day, so enjoy the short time

I must reply to (#81719). Your last comment "The Forrestville crowd was loud on their first basket and I for one do not doubt that it would have continued had they been leading" is IDIOTIC!

Yeah sure we barracked loud for the eagles first basket, what would you have had us do?

The point I am making as an EAGLE supporter along with people from your OWN CLUB is that you started carrying on before the first tip off & did not let up untill well after the last buzzer.

I expect that sort of cheering for proffesional sports, NBL, AFL, NRL although to be quite honest I have never actually heard such a comotion from a small group of people at any of those events. I have not even heard COLLINGWOOD supporters dribbling the kind of tripe that u 4 heros where dribbling on sunday evening.

You have a bunch of great tallented kids, as EVERYONE (Sturt & Eagles supporters)have attested to on here. Your Daughters deserve every succsess that they will quite obviously earn over the coming years.

The best that can be said about the 4 moronic fathers that come with them is that they will hopefully get everything that is coming their way as well.
