WHY DO YOU UMPIRE

Why do umpires umpire? Its not for the money. Its for the love of the game.
Parents need to think of their behavior AND their comments to the umpires on umpiring. This behavior is not doing any favours for our sport and it is not the example we want to set for our kids.
As a witness to some parents from a certain club at a recent carnival, I can say that their behavior was the kind that we do not need within in the sport, especially with the rebuilding our sport needs. Its time for all clubs to stop the abuse on umpires for the betterment of the game.

I used to umpire for the money and the fact that i liked umpiring, but I'd rather sleep in Saturday mornings so I stopped it, I haven't gotten back into it since. I enjoyed it as well!

Its only for the money and the convenience that you dont have to do it for long shifts and the incentive that some of the time you get to play a game after.

Yes i Agree that people should stop abusing umpires i admit there are some very fair and good umpires out there some that you can walk up to during a foul shot and ask them what did i do wrong not " WHAT THA F**K WAS THAT FOR" if you do that then your coach should sit your ass on the bench, but then there are some umpires that just do a blantently shit job and its obvious when they dont call fouls so they can get home 10 minutes earlier etc yes its late but your doin a job and getting paid and players pay so they can have a good fair clean game people often wonder why games go out of control sometimes umpires will let somthing go that really should have being stop it keeps going for the 1st quarter then they start calling it and players are like WTF? thats when they lose the repect of players during a game not saying that players shouldnt show repect back , i just say if reff's just do there job properly, yes some do there job 100% of the time and every game but there are some inconsistent ones and some that arent even fit enought to make it down the court yet they will make a call from the back court trying to catch up and there counter part reff whould have either seing that nothing was there or it was his call in the first place because the other reff was not in position cause he is having a coranary down on the other baseline.

Mr X. Sounds like your not a Ref. Your comment on umpires being blantently sh*t, I think if you can do a better job, then get out on a court and starting showing us how it is done.

mmm gee consdiering i wasnt talking in first person no i am not a reff i take it you are, and stick paragraphs up ur a...s i dont need you telling me how to type my opinions.

To add i have reffed before and had no problems, on occasions ive done it at carnvial's etc and i actually had some one approach me and say " god your better then some district reffs, ever thought of doin it" i couldnt though because of work comittments and the fact that i like to play, and when im not working im playing bball.

Also i was not saying all reffs are retards i did commend those that do a very good and consistent reffs that do the job each week if only more of the exsisting reffs could match the same standard as they all get paid to do the same job.

i finf good reffs will keep up with the game and keep under control and dont mind explaining to a player what they did wrong instead of being slack when one asked and saying " step away or you'll recieve a tech foul fair if the player is being offensive but if there just asking a well mannered question to do with the game to try and grasp why the call was made, what is so wrong with that?
