Connecticut Suns go for Marita Payne

In the world of Auburn women's basketball, Marita Payne is a towering figure. Now the 6-foot-5 senior center is hoping she can carry that dominance over to the WNBA.

Payne, a psychology major, was a third-round draft pick April 5 for the Connecticut Sun. Part of her professional appeal stemmed from her fame as one of the best shot-blockers in SEC women's basketball history.

As a junior, Payne had 141 blocked shots to lead the nation and to break the single-season SEC record. Her career ended with Payne as the No. 2 shot blocker in SEC history with 377 blocks.
