West V South

Both South teams lost. Women by 6, Men by approx 13.
South women played well, but early foul trouble put extra pressure on the bench players to perform. Good effort by Crockford against Woosnam.
South men 20 down at one stage. worked hard to reduce the defecit to less than 10, but could not maintain the intensity to win. Always hard for a visiting team to win at the Port, and today was no exception. Worst performance by the refs this year. Don,t mind bad referring, as long as it is consistent.

Panther had a great game, was close to South's best IMO. Missed a couple of easy shots, but also made 5-6 pure hustle plays resulting in second chance points and played great defence.

Crusher was huge for West. Ended with 16 and 19 or thereabouts. The veterans played well for West, young guys went missing a bit.

Crockford did a good job on Woosnam? What game were you watching? Its good to see Sam getting back to how she used to play, one thing about her game I like is that she tries to get her teammates involved and is not a selfish player. I wish her the best of luck for the lightning next season.

As Sam is a great player, you would expect her to play well and be a team player. I dont think that anyone was saying that Sam was stopped, but seeing a young player like Taya contain a seasoned veteran like Sam even slightly shows positive steps by a good young player. I think it is great to support your favorite players or friends but please dont do it at the detriment of others. I think Sam who is a great ambassador for women's basketball would appreciate the efforts and ability of a player like Taya who did indeed do a good job defensively against her when they were matched up.

Glenn, Vinny is entitled to his or her opinion.
don't take it so personal - and not all great players play a team game when they come back to the Aba so credit to Sam is worthy....

Well said Glen. It is time more encouragement was given to the younger players. Woosnam also deserves all the credit she gets. Don,t see any sign of whinging by anyone.

Apart from a couple of calls by the rookie the refereeing was good. Allowed alot of action that wasnt disadvtaging go, and talked up the post to save blowing the whistle. Game finished clean, no hard fouls, and shooters were protected all afternoon. Dont see a real problem in how it was refereed....

Could you elaborate GB on your first post?

Can anyone help me, I want to download a song that was played at this game, but have no idea who it was by or what its called.

It was fairly uptempo, had a woman's voice and the lyrics were really hard to pick up (for me at least). It was played twice I think, and was one of the last songs I heard at the game.

Geeze some people get defensive on here. Give credit where credit is due. Didnt see the game, but dont think anyone was bagging Sam's game by saying that Taya did a good job defensively on her. Just because Tays isnt a 'name' player doesnt mean she doesnt deserve recognition for a good defensive game. I know a lot of great aba players that have shut down our lightning girls at stages of games. I think its great development for non lightning players to experience playing against our top players. So when they do a good job defensively or offensively good luck to em!.
