ABA Results round 7

North V South
Women
North won by 3 (66 to 63) Close all game. South,s poor shooting lost them the game. North,s half court trap very effective.
I thought that to be enligable to play in minor rounds, players need to be available for the finals.

Observations (by a spectator at the game)
It is sad for the sport when an ex NBL player and now coach tries to intimidate the referees.

Appears to be a no foul auroa around the star players. Minimul fouls ever, called them.

Men
North won by 34 points (106 to 72).
Physical game, North up 14 to 2 with 4 minutes into the gane. South fought back to be down by 2 at quarter time. (29 to 27. South down by 14 at half time (58 to 44). TOO many turnovers for South, North too strong on the night

Luke Mapunda forgot his game again
but come one down Ryan Willis what a game, from the big man.

Great captains game from Cam Wilson, in patches Woodville looked like last years premiers, with quick movement of the ball.

Rory Craddock unstoppable at time but was sub out too many times. Why Crothers was out when Rees was on the court especially in the second half was inexplicable.

Brooke Sidebottom, was well contained, but Vanessa Michaels showed lots of improvement. Woodville hampered yet again by 8 point quarters. West superbly led by Sam Woosnam were too strong in all areas to win by about 30

Quite simple bballer - no Nash or Truslove this year to play their 4 to 6 games each to get keep West around the mark. Some young fellas going OK tho. Saw West play three weeks ago vs Eagles and thought they lacked leadership. Have any of their senior players improved this year? Crothers seems to be going OK but Phillips, Evans, Bell and their point guard do not seem to be having much impact this year.

How did the other young guys for Woodville (Pascoe, Reeves, Birmingham) go tonight?

Eastern has crashed to earth with a whimper. All the people that were talking them up this season has now gone crying back to mommmy.

Crying to mommy you say? Not really, considering that they were meant to have Jacob this season.

Jacob comes in for Eastern in their game against North and is expected to play the rest of the season. Steve Williams is apparently joining the team too (the US college Williams, not the guy from South).

Last night, the Mavs women stayed in the hunt for three quarters before a 28-7 final quarter gave Sturt the 70-48 win. Amanda Williams was the only Mav in double figures, with 11 points, but 7 turnovers. For Sturt, Monique Bowley had 20 points and 17 rebounds in 30 minutes, and Brigid Bowley had 15 points (including 13 in the last quarter if you were listening to Brad Newley).

The mens game was essentially the Darren Ng show as he racked up 26 points and 9 boards in a 100-72 win. Eastern were without Trebilcock and Sturt were missing Dodman and Shep.

At one point, I think Darren might've had 11 straight points in a couple of minutes - pretty impressive. Sturt mostly rested Oscar (only 23 minutes) but he was pretty crap anyway - 8 points and 4 boards, but only took 9 shots. Austin Smylie was pretty good, nailing both his threes to have 17 and 8 in 22 minutes.

For Eastern, the best was probably Brad Davis with 16 points. Brad Hill went 3/10 for 13 points and Ben Madgen went hard for 14 and 9. Brad Bungey had the only double-double for the game, with 10 and 12.

Once Sturt got the lead out to 20-30 points, it was pretty boring and the final 6 minutes of garbage time was ugly stuff.

No idea but it does leave the door open for other teams to do the same. Whats good for one is good for all. I bet South must feel even more hard done by it seems Norwood can complain and pull rules out to suit the rest of the league but they have cry and get away with it.
