NH- AFL RULING

AFL father son rule has changed a little bit but still, adelaide nor westcoast can get Bryce Gibbs.
An absolute DISGRACE!!!

Crows haven't picked up anyone from the rule.

Another way for the victorians to CHEAT

considering Vic players only have to play 100 games before they are classified as father son,

where as WA its gotto be 150 games and SA 200 games

funny but that does not seem like a level playing field to me,

Don't forget you guys (Crows) are a state team. And you play against little suburbs like Essendon. :)

Interesting article in todays paper which puts a few extra facts, and explanation of how it all works.

The disgrace (if true)is that the original Crows Board actually proposed the now old 20 year rule. Clearly without realling understanding what it meant to them or how it worked eg. that only league games (not pre season, nor state, nor night) would be counted towards the 200 required.

How could you make such a blunder?

KG and Cornsey did the maths last night and estimate it will be 10 years or so before we have anyone who could qualify.

What about the AFL only now finding out that Ebert doesn't qualify under the rule either.

Again how can the governing body miss something like this?

Trigg is however still saying we will try and draft Gibbs. Yeah right........there has to be a club out there that is going to give up the option of draft pick No 1 (arguably the best 17 year old and captain of Australia) for sure (NOT).

Don't forget that the crows and port pick from 4-5 teams for father and son.

Where as teams like Carlton only pick from their own team.

they change the rule to give adelaide no hope in getting a good player and then BLAMES it on the Crows!

How STUPID is that? Demetiou or however you spell his name is a cheater and lets just hope that the victorians fail and not win a grandfinal for a long time. One thing you will know, when there is a final, Demetiou is going to try and get the victorian team a the home advantage. The victorians already get grand final advantage. What more?

*yawn*
And you wonder why everyone thinks South Australians have an inferiority complex?

FACT: It WAS the Crows who lobbied for the father-son rule they had in place.

FACT: They have a far GREATER resource of fathers to choose from, from South, Bays, Sturt and Norwood - thats 80 blokes playing A's for them each week, as opposed to 20 for a Vic/Bris/Syd team. That is why it's 200 games instead of 100 (again, a number the paper seems to suggest the Crows recommended).

Now that the Crows find out they won't be able to draft a young SA stud, they want the rules changed to accomodate them (as you would!). Not suprisingly, the Victorian clubs oppose this (as you would!) so they have a better chance to draft him.

To both anonymous respondants. Before you have a go at what someone says, have the guts to identify yourselfs.

Secondly, yes, the crows made a blunder and as a result, the AFL are going to make them pay for it by not allowing the crows the chance to draft any player with the father-son rule until Andrew Macleod's son is old enough to play in the AFL.

The biggest point here is that the AFL had a chance to forgive the crows for their blunder and allow them one concession. It is the AFL's attitude, however, not to give any clubs west of Victoria an inch of favour if they can help it, this was obviously shown by the rule change. I bet instead of discussing whether or not to grant the rule change in Adelaide's favour, they sat there and brain stormed an idea and an excuse as to why they would not allow this rule change.

They penalise the club for a blunder but it is the fans who are the ones that will play, I remember playing against Ross Gibbs and he was a fantastic player for Glenelg, playing over 250 games. What a tragedy that his son won't be able to stay in Adelaide because of a "Technicality"

You will notice that the AFL have also made blunders by letting West Coast and Port Adelaide draft a player under the father-son rule that were not elligable under the old ruling.

This new ruling makes these drafted player legitimate. This was a mistake by the AFL so they aren't penalising the clubs, however, they have quickly moved in to disadvantage West Coast for the future by not letting the younger brothers of this player who was originally drafted illegaly under the father-son rule ineligable to be drafted under the new father-son rule, go figure that out.....

Could you imagine if they said that Geelong could have Gary Ablett jr, but not Nathan Ablett. There would be a riot. Let's not forget who the father-son rule was made to benefit. Clubs who had past players in the VFL competition, notice that they all come from Victoria.

The AFL is truely an expanded VFL and not a true national competition. I say fold the current competition and start from scratch where every team would have to apply to take part, thjs way we can even up the fairness of the competition and not have what we have now where the AFL make token gestures to interstate clubs West of Victoria to make them feel on "Par" with all the other teams.

One more thing, The 80 odd players running around the SANFL are not elligable, nor are their sons under the father son rule.

Get your facts straight

The rule should be the same for every club in the AFL, not differ. Do not be surpirsed if you see this go to court...
