Mystery import-
don't want to reveal the name because other teams will want this import-
Something special? maybe
the one thing u can give the sixers is that they have a strong history of getting top quality Imports .. Lets hope there on the money again
Maybe they are getting rid of Farley and bringing back Paris and David Robinson...
I'm telling you, it's this guy - Austin Smylie - got people who know him and he has family here in Adelaide and is looking for a gig, not sure for how long though.
Check out his college stats - not bad at all. Even though he was born in the States, he has Aussie citizenship.

Does anyone know how old Mike McDaniels is he got picked up by the Mavs a while back but plays in the ABA for Brisbane now if he is still young i think he would be a good pick up
don't give out names!
I want the sixers to sign a good import without any teams knowing who the person is until he is signed...
GO SIXERS!!!
would the league that Austin plays for be harder than the NBL?
Because they are really good stats if he could convert them
The best thing about him is the 7 rebounds per game and the 22 points a game average
sorry for triple post but...
if we got him his nick name is OZ (for AUStin)
and with Oz (Forman) coming out maybe a replacement of the samename might mean the sixers don't have to remember new nick names!

No names - just be patient and see if they can pull it off. If they get one of the targets, no one here will be complaining!
thanks for reasuring us that the import will be good!

The guy is past it . Had big troubles with the bottle ALLEGEDLY.
I am assuming that Austin is the same Austin playing the Sturt ABL team this week

thought i saw something on the news that said he had not played in the NBL before. I would guess they would have several options, either way whoever comes in needs to be a bit of a scoring machine to find those PPG we have lost in the other guys.
Apparently Austin Smileys is not been negotiated with

This is the sort of stuff I love, the excitement about getting a new import. How good was it was we signed Willie first time round, the rumours were that he was quick, then there were fleeting reports coming out of the Sixers training camp that he was quality, then the build up to the first game, then the first time he's on the break he dunks on Ben Thompson's head. How good was all that?
Bring on more of the same this time round I say.

Hey Skyhook.....errrr....you do know that Vin Baker is currently playing for the LA Clippers in the NBA right ????
He is healthy, clean, and far from past it.
If the guy played in the NBL, he could potnetially be a MVP.

Mr Black - He has only played a total of 19 minutesd for the season so far for the clippers for grand totals of 4 points, 3 rebounds and 4 turnovers....I sense your being a little optimistic about his future..

Vin Baker's name has been somewhat seriously thrown in the mix, and recent whispers have suggested there are negotiations taking place with a well known big man for next season, and that an announcement may be made this week.
It has been suggested that this big man had not played in the NBL before, but that everyone would know his name.
This said, has anyone given any thought to it being Shawn Kemp? The guy has been trying to get bak into the NBA, and has reportedly lost a lot of weight. He's 36, but we know age isn't a deterrent for the Sixers.
He is 6'10" and would be a monster on the boards in the NBL, and would give an extra 20 points a game.
He has played in the USBL since retiring from the NBA, so I don't believe he would think the NBL 'below' him in terms of standard.
If he were to dominate here for a season, it might be the springboard he needs to get back to the big time.
There is only a few games left for him to get picked up by any team needing to fill a spot for the playoffs, but it doesn't look like it will happen.
Any thoughts? Stranger things have happened.

What's Adam Quick up to? Has he signed anywhere for next season?

Not that I've heard. Wollongong have lost Caporn so need a back-up guard - he could fit in there?

Kemp would be a huge, if not suprising, signing....but rumour is that he is still being seriously looked at by NBA teams, and Im guessing the huge dollars of Europe would be calling well before the loose change you get to play down here.
Not being optimistic about the potential signing of Shaun Kemp because I seriously doubt it would be feasible and extremely unlikely to happen, but if the Sixer somehow snagged the reignman I would suggest that it could bring as many as 2000 - 3000 new season ticket holder. The Sixer would automatically become a title contender with the squad they have now.
C: Wheeler
PF: Kemp
SF: Copeland
SG: Farley
PG: Maher
Nash, Hill and Cooper and a few rookies of the bench, I can smell another championship is with in reach.

I would not describe it as a "potential signing", rather a guess made by piecing together bits of information.
1. Sixers negotiating with a quality big
2. Hasn't played in the L before
3. Despite the above, fans will know the player
4. Kemp is unemployed and looking for a springboard back to the NBA
5. thedoctor is allowed to dream sometimes

thedoctor, this was posted on realgm forum (Dallas) regarding Kemp. Overall Mavs fans seem keen to have him on the team if they can get the league exemption.
"Friend of mine saw Kemp last night in a local Houston gym. He went to ask for his autograph and asked which teams he might ending up on, New Jersey, Denver or Dallas. That was his response. He said Houston was interested, but he wants to play in the playoffs"
Hopefully none of that occurs & he decides to play for the 36ers. If not him maybe Paul Shirley, he's made comments on his blog I read that he'd love to live in Australia at some stage.
If it's the ReignMan, I can't wait to call the stat.
Dunk Made - 40
Assist - 5

Judging by the latest Paul Shirley blogs, he may end up in LA for a while!
Surely an NBL team could offer Shirley a gig as a "Blog Artist" and pay him for that, as well as playing bball, and dodge the cap.

Shirley could still blog from Oz, get paid his current wage from ESPN, and keep fit and play ball for the Sixers.
Wasn't he going to Russia at one stage?

Isaac could downgrade the Ferrari to a Porshe and then employ Paul Shirley on the side and pay him $50k to blog. The sixers could then pay Shirley whatever they have available.
ESPN would also snatch this up and Paul could tell the world all about basketball in Australia. Here's hoping it's not the same experience he had in Russia,
Doc, the went to Russia and apparently it sucked ar$e.
