Australian seven-footer Luke Schenscher has made his NBA debut for the Chicago Bulls after recently signing a 10-day contract with the famous American club.
Coming off the bench, Schenscher scored four points on perfect 2-of-2 shooting from the field as well as adding one rebound in 12minutes and nineteen seconds on-court. His efforts were to no avail however as the Bulls went down to Le Bron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers at Quicken Loans Arena, 91-72.
The 216cm redhead has been trying to earn a berth in the NBA since leaving Georgia Tech at the end of the last college season. He signed as free agent with the Denver Nuggets before being cut and subsequently suiting up for the Sacramento Kings for a single game in the pre-season.
The Bulls signed Luke Schenscher out of the NBDL US development league, where he had been playing with the Fort Worth Flyers. He had been averaging 8.2 ppg, 6.1 rpg, 1.42 bpg and 1.2 apg in 36 appearances (34 starts) for the Flyers, shooting .530 from the floor and .607 from the free throw line.
Chicago has a history of signing Australian centres, having previously had Luc Longley and Chris Anstey on their roster.
Schenscher first gained prominence in the US during his four seasons at Georgia Tech (2001-05), where he played a key role in the Yellow Jackets' run to the 2004 Final Four. In 119 games at Tech he averaged 7.3 ppg, 5.4 rpg and 1.32 bpg.
