Eagles Men Triumph in Millicent

Once again, for the third straight year, the eagles abl mens team has clean swept the the Millicent abl challenge this weekend.

After taking care of the Warnanbool seahawks on the friday night by about 15 points (would have been a lot bigger margin if it wasn't for Bobby Cunninghams 42 pts), the eagles took on un undermanned Mt Gambier Pioneers on the sat night, winning only by ten in the end, after having 20 point lead at one stage, but playing some younger players saw the Pioneers close the gap in the last quarter. The Pioneers had their three bigs in Sedlock, Holmes and Jeferees playing(all who looked a little out of touch), but were very light on on guards with ex eagles Dan Wilson and ex Mav Mason starting in the guards positions. Eagles probably should have won by more, but seemed to take the foot of the pedal in the last half.

Then on sunday the eagles took care of a determined under 20 state team. Eagles looked like they were going to blow the game right open in the 1st, but to the state teams credit, after giving up an early lead, pretty much matched it with the eagles in the last 3 quarters. A low scoring afair, the eagles wasted plenty of opportunities to put the state team well away, with missed lay ups, and poor execution at times, kepping the state team in the game. I think this state team is really going to struggle. With no Inges, there is just no one good enough to give them enough scoring power to score enough points to win against good teams. They really have only their defence and running game to rely on, which I don't think will be good enough...I hope they prove me wrong.

All in all a positive weekend for the eagles, Dix, Sullivan, Sutton and Arnold leading the way. Hoban, Mac-Taylor, Haydon,Wood and Gange all having their moments.

Ref, I would like to correct you. Mason started at times last year for Pioneers so he is not light on.....

Eagles women won both games - too strong for the other two teams, winning by 3 and about 15.
Norwood women lost all three games, to Forestville by 3 points, and to State girls by about 5 on Saturday, and 30 on Sunday!
State girls too good for Norwood but couldn't compete with Eagles.
