MVP Sports and Bear Basketball partnership

A press release of sorts for a current change in local basketball:

MVP SPORTS AND BEAR BASKETBALL AUSTRALIA - SHOOTING FOR SA!

As of 1st Feb 2006, MVP Sports and Bear Basketball Aust. have formed a partnership that will provide ongoing services to further the promotion and development of basketball throughout Australia.

MVP Sports and Bear Basketball will provide:
  • Player Management Services - divisions in Europe and USA. Current players include Brett Maher, Dusty Rychart, Martin Cattalini, Oscar Forman, Peter Crawford, Joe Ingles and Blake Truslove.
  • Media - Talking Hoops Radio Show
  • Promotional Ventures and Special Events - arrangement of guest speakers and other soon to be announced events.
  • Scouting Services
  • Developmental Services - Stamford Grand Basketball Academy
  • Bear Basketball Aust will continue to provide specialist clinics, programs and coaching services to schools and individuals throughout metropolitan and regional SA. 41 schools already currently enrolled.

Managing Director of MVP Sports Paul Bell said, "I am really excited about this alliance as now there is an organisation that is able to cater for all aspects of the basketball fraternity, from elite level players, through to the fans and the youth of our sport."

Bear Basketball Australia's Justin Schueller echoes Bell's sentiments, "I feel that this is something that is long overdue and will hopefully assist in providing a much needed "lift" for the sport as a whole.

Web site to be unveiled in the coming weeks.
On the surface, it might look like a big deal being made out of nothing, but they've got some interesting plans. Certainly something to keep an eye on.

Awesome news for the state, having 2 switched on basketball people working together can only be a good thing, they have already put BASA to shame. Great job guys, look forward to the developments

"they have already put BASA to shame."

shame is probably the wrong word but looks like they will be active in the basketball community, which has to be a good thing.
A different angle on things is always good. At the end of the day if more is being done with basketball in this state it will have great results for bball, and with these two as passionate about the sport as they are then things are looking good.

BASA have dropped the ball bigtime, they are in less then 20 schools this year, Bear Basketball already has over 40 booked.

If MVP are sucessful getting the 36ers, then this would be fantastic for them to be able to market basketball in schools.

And of course if they go for that second team, then I believe the schools will be even more important as they will want new fans to the games. Young families that might actually be able to afford going to a NBL game, not like with the sixers in years gone by.

Any idea how far away the website is?

With the 2 people involved with North and West Adelaide I am interested to know how they are going to overcome the perception that they are trying to recruit or lure players to there respective clubs. BASA may be doing a S**thouse job but at least they have no hidden agenda's.

they are there for the better of the sport not their clubs improvement. I believe that they have opened up helping all clubs, i know our club, south, has spoken with justin and he also is helping eastern get more kids into their club i think so saying this just seems like sour grapes.

Justin was a development officer at basa and was still coaching at North, so how is that any different?
most development officers at basa have or have had relationships with one particular club, but when you are in a profession this doesnt become a factor.
Quit hating and see the huge benefits of what these 2 are doing!

Think its a good move for them to join forces and make a super basketball power, now that its a partnership it just means they would split all profits, good move by both i would think.

Watch for MVP sports to take over BSA competition in the extended future, now there is a juicy rumor.

how could that be good for basketball? Unless it is run as a non profit organisation!

Belly is a business man and he does things to MAKE MONEY!

BSA needs someone in control who will put the game first and money making second - and no I dont mean like the last administration - any profit made needs to be pumped back into the sport not payed out to the new 'owners' of the sport

who is to say they wouldnt do that?

yes certainly some areas would need to make money, but im sure they arent becoming millionaires from school clinics and the academy. think these guys have a genuine intrest in the sport and think what ever they do will be in the best intrest of the sport. dont see the radio show making them any money, do you?

I look at it this way - if they can attract people to their services, then they're either doing it at the right price, they're doing it the right way, or both. Have a look around the net and read up on Snoop Dogg's football league which is more affordable for local children than the original alternative.

If what they do doesn't further basketball, customers will go elsewhere, right?
