Funny SA Basketball Blitz, Feb 17-19
Press Release from BASA:
SA Basketball Blitz
As the curtain raiser to the forthcoming 2006 Bank SA State League season the top men's and women's teams in SA, and one Mildura team, will compete in a preseason tournament.
Similar to the National Basketball League Blitz in Cairns the SA Basketball Blitz will be held in Gawler at STARplex over the weekend of the 17 19 February 2006.
The Blitz offers a fast paced style of basketball with all games having two 12 minutes halves. Competing teams will be able to try out new offensive and defensive plays, integrate new players, check out the competition and develop their game strategies.
Off the court the Blitz provides a unique opportunity for senior SA players and coaches to meet, renew friendships and enjoy watching other games.
Officials will benefit from the game time in preparing for the season and they will have opportunity to talk to coaches and teams about rules and how they will be interpreted.
The tournament will show case the elite men's and women's teams from the 10 South Australian clubs competing in the 2006 Bank SA State League plus one interstate men's team from Mildura. A total of 21 teams and 250 players and support staff will participate over the 3 days at the one venue.
The objective of the Blitz is to launch the 2006 season and provide teams with a lead in to the main season which commences March 4, 2006. Teams will be able to take advantage of a rare chance to meet their opposition prior to the main season and mix it both on and off the court. There will be great opportunities for team bonding, socialising and catching up with friends in the basketball community as well a cross training in the recently expanded STARplex venue.
Media sports editors will get a first hand look at teams prior to the season and interviews with key players and coaching staff that will set the stage for the opening rounds of the 2006 season.
Blitz games will commence on the Friday evening with each game having two 12 minute halves and the clock running to facilitate game intensity and recovery time. A closing ceremony will complete the weekend following the finals on Sunday afternoon.
The Blitz is being hosted by the three district basketball clubs who successfully hosted the U14 Boys National Championships at STARplex in October, Central Districts, North Adelaide and Woodville. The chairman of the Blitz is Mr Grahame Mansfield who can be contacted on 0408848781.
