Sixers v Pirates - Your thoughts

Well what a great game that was tonight. Ive been waiting for a game like this all year and it has finally come. Maher at his best with 6 three's Farley very effecient tonight with 21 points , Hill off the bench gave us a good spark but would still prefer if he didn't dribble as much, but in saying that he really is the only player that can penetrate the key way. Rychart and Nash put in solid performances as well. We hit 16 three's tonight and this is a result of our good ball movement. Great crowd as well, checked on the NBL website and says crowd of 6049. Biggest crowd of the season which is a very positive sign. Hopefully a few more will turn up in 3 weeks when the playoffs strat.

Realistically speaking I can see the Sixers winning two of their last three games. Cairns and Townsville will be the two wind but Brisbane might just have us. Please prove me wrong and just win all three.

GO SIXERS...

your opinions please. and tell me if u agree with my predictions on the next few games.

It was a good game from our point of view but from the johnny-come-lately supporter:

It was stinking HOT - This is unacceptable for both players and spectators.
The North-West canteen fridges were not operational hence no drinks being sold
The PA was back to its worst, very muffled
No Bonz
Lack of atmosphere even with our biggest crowd - maybe it was just too hot to get into it.
Half time shootout was a bit of a non-event

Get off this sight ya wanker Crooked!!!

Don't know who the hell you think you are but people taking your attitude ruin our sport.

If everyone took your attitude then we would draw even less to this sport. It needs to be positive ya wanker!

I haven't been to a game lately - but tonight the PA was sounding much better to me and the music from the music man - I must admit I have dissed him before - but great game tonight music man!

The game was a little scrappy in parts, but that does happen when you get 3rd versus 8th in any sport.

A great breakaway dunk by Hill tonight - the only thing he did wrong on that play was not waving to the crowd whilst he was up there!!

And Maher - he can knock 'em from anywhere, even when he gets hacked and pushed out of court in the corner. And for Hunter tonight - Helms had some great lay-ins through heavy traffic. A bit of action between Farley and Davidson kept me on my toes in the first half and the half time shoot out was great - seemed like City Mazda really wanted to give away a car tonight with how many people were given the opportunity. Good rule about having to remain on the floor - makes it more exciting.

In terms of the atmosphere, I think people did pretty good considering they were fanning with one hand and clapping with the other!!!

Oh and not to mention before the game - Crooked, if you were half interested in basketball you would have witnessed the Brillance of Phillips and Willey and Screen.
Along with the most amazing sportperson in the world. She looked as though she had a pretty lazy game still getting back into things after a lengthy layoff with injury - and still not looking even 75%, but somehow went about a quiet game high of 28 points.

If she spent the whole game on the court LJ would have hit 40 easy, which wouldn't be out of character really.

What a great night of Basketball this state has witnessed.

SO CROOKED - GOTTA SAY IT....
If you don't have anything positive/constructive to say dickhead don't say it at all.
Better still piss-off because your sport don't need your crap!!!

Duckie, You need to chill out.

Perhaps we were all TOO hot in the dome.

In an open forum your going to get a diverse range of opinions, and views. That's the nature of the post. Disagree yes, attack the person posting, too harsh.

I think I went to the same game as "Crooked". And that is not being distructive. I'm surprised it wasn't posted as "Cooked".

When I'm bring home a daughter who is ill from the oppresive heat inside the environment (yes, she should have drunk more fluid) what was it like for the players? Walking out supporting our daughter and seeing the ambulance members attending to others, there could be a valid point there!

The players need to be congratulated on performing as well as they did. The admin side of things continues to fall short of the mark as described by "Crooked".

And that is not from one comment but from the many others that sit around us as well.

Notwithstanding ALL those "negatives" as you would view them, we still continue to support our team.

That does not mean that we have to blindly beef up every event as being perfect. Last night was not.

Harsh words Duckie. The fact of the matter is that it was stinking hot last night, especially if you sat in there for more than 4 hours through 2 games. However, it wasn't myself I was pitying, it was the players. They did it really tough last night in that heat. It would not have hurt for the airconditioning to have been checked during the week to ensure it was working on a really hot day. We knew the weather was going to reach those temperatures atleast 3 days earlier. To me its just disregard for the well being of the players. They should not have had to play under those conditions.

I have nothing but the utmost respect for the players considering the effort they put into the game in the heat. Although you could see how uncomfortable they were, they played as though they had no consideration at all for the heat and went about there business regardless. It was a fantastic game, one that the Sixers had total control over. Too bad they didn't have control over the airconditioning. Well done to the team. If they can play like that, I together with the other 6048 fans can personally overlook the hot conditions in the stadium.

By the way, the Fellas game was a great one also. Worth the ticket price just for that game alone. They also played their hardest despite the heat.

In a week of some pretty rough news for SA basketball, I can overlook struggling air-conditioning to appreciate the club and league's best crowd of the season showing up to witness two great games.

And the club can try and give away a car, but when the legal restrictions outlaw a jumpshot at half-time of a basketball game, I don't like the participants' chances. Add to that the guy going for the plasma screen put up the weakest half-court shot I've seen!

I dont know what Crooked has to complain about. I went to the soccer on Friday night and that was HOT. The game kicked off at 7:30 and it was still 40 degrees. No aircon at Hindmarsh Stadium, not even a hint of a cool breeze, yet 13000 people still rocked up to watch it. For most of the first half people sat in full sun until it set. Even an hour after the game had started it was still 38 degrees. At least at the Dome you can get some respite from the heat with the aircon. Yes it is hard on players and spectators alike, but sitting outside in that heat is even harder on everyone, even if the players did have a drinks break halfway through each half. Crooked if you can't handle the heat, get out of the kitchen

Im amazed everyone expects the Domes airconditioning system to have that place chilly.

You have got to be kidding me, your talking about cooling a building with over 6,000 people in it not to mention the heat generated from the lights.

Don't be fooled in comparing it to your little living room with its oversized aircon.

Take alook at the tennis - Rod Laver Arena, roof closed aircon pumping and it is still damn hot in there! Granted that arean is bigger than the dome and there is probably around 20,000 in there, but they also probably spent a lot more money on their aircon system.

you do expect it to be cooler than what it was though. I was at both games and it was unbearable, the caps before were reduced to putting a damp cloth on the back of their necks during tumeouts. The home team had the big fan but none for the away team! the game was great though and i hope we see continued support through the finals.

get over it girls - no matter how good the air con, it is virtually impossible to aircondition a place that size with that many people!

Does anyone else have something to complain about??

Great Game. Played the full 4 quarters. Brad Hill continues to get better, which is great to see. He has a great amount of confidence in his game. I think I counted 4 round the back passes from him last night.
Hunter didnt cope with the heat at all. Speaking to a few of them after the game, Both Cullen and Davidson were vomiting at halftime because of the heat.
Speaking of Cullen, we are the only team he has scored double figures against this season. Which he has done on all 3 occasions. Strange stat.
Would anyone else like to see him with the sixers next season?

its hard to say, i like his game here but if everywhere else he is not getting into double figures its hard to say his is worth it. On the bench, sure.

I know everyone, me including would love the air-con to work but what about most other sports like ALF, they play in all kinds of contitions, its just what you do.

And by the way, how do you think the dome would compare for air-con?
They use theirs a fair bit and it can get freezing in there although there arent 6000 people in there, they never seem to get problems with condensation. Anyone know why?

Typical SA fans... Always want more, and nothing is ever good enough for them!!!! The air-con was going the best it can for the environment it was in. Just relax and enjoy the hoops, everyone will be better off!

"At least at the Dome you can get some respite from the heat with the aircon".

I'm not sure from your post if you actually went to see the game last night. From the above quote, I take it that you found the Dome to be a cool place to get some respite from the heat. I'm sure everyone else would not have agreed. The Dome was anything but cool.

Just to clarify - I was harsh on Crooked because even though whilst I agree there were some aspects of administration that still need to be dealt with in regards to the presentation of the game - there is no need to get on the site where thousands read about the sport - and maybe even new people to the sport and see six negative things written about it - when there were so many more positives.

People - we need to forget complaining about the sport because it does it no good and focus on positives - and this negative behaviour has been happening too long and it has really got on my goat!!

By the way - I wouldn't feel sorry for the players - many other pro atheletes are playing in the same conditions at the moment and they continue to put on a spectacle.
Its what they're paid to do - oh and they will pull up okay the next day, it is what their health and fitness staff are paid to ensure happens. In fact, if you have an understanding and appreciation of how hard these atheletes had to work in that heat - it makes it all the more amazing some of the things they were doing out there.

Bottom line - focus on positives more than negatives from now - and the general message to the public about our game will change - oh and the poor attitude about basketball will also change.

I didn't go to the game, but i have been in there when it's been hot and no it's not the most comfortable place to be in. I've been there when they have had the aircon on before the game has started and it does the job then, but when the games have started they have turned it off and just had the fan going to move the air around. For the capacity of the stadium and the people it can hold, the aircon can only do so much.

OK thats it...i was going to let it go without complaint..but i need to keep up with the others on this post...

It is not good enough that...

There are too many steps down to courtside!

the grass in the carpark is not level!

why oh why do i have to drive all that way to the dome..it should be next door to my house!

when will the management of the 36ers do something about the japanese whale boats?

What are Willy and Brett going to do about the ludicrous current tax laws?

Get over it people..it was hot!

Keefy,I'm not picking on you but how can you comment about getting some respite from the heat with airconditioning when you weren't even there. Its great you decided to support the soccer instead but outdoors friday night was was more pleasant than inside the Dome weather wise. No I wasn't at the soccer but outdoors is outdoors wherever you are. Atleast the games were exciting enough to help take your mind of the heat. That's where the comfort came from.
