Hunter situation looking grim

OzHoops comments:

Management changes for the Hunter Pirates happened overnight last night. Nick and Helen Buvinic have been replaced by John OBrian, and he will be having former owners Butch Hays and Jeff Blandon will be helping him out.

Put simply they now have one month to find an extra 1500 PAYING customers and $300,000 sponsure - all this with the possiablity that they may fold hanging over their heads - yea right.

Just heard on the radio (ABC) that the Pirates desperately need a $300,000 sponsor willing to committ to that for 2/3 years.
Could be some centres looking for a job?

Heard the same story on the eve of finals last year from Hunter, there was a chance that they could not have afforded the flights to make the next round of the finals had they won through.

Why does the NBL allow people to take up licences who dont have the $$$ to back it up??

No good having a team on a shoe string budget that is verging on folding year in and year out.

Its the clubs own fault. The Newsacasle RSL is a huge income source, but is not allowed profits, and so all the money goes back into the local sport. When they were established, the NBL franshise were offered full financial backing if they were to be called 'Newcastle', however they shot it down and opted be called 'Hunter' to appeal to a larger demographic. Instead the Newcastle NRL has reaped these benefits. Anther major business blunder in the NBL....

64872 I believe they pay for their own flights usually at a discounted rate for sponsorship
