Elijah Pepper's insane form in NBL1

I never talk about NBL1, but right now Elijah Pepper is in generational form in NBL1 West for Warwick.

His first 4 games

50/7/7
51/6/3
48/8/5
50/10/5 last night

Averaging 49.7ppg, I know it's NBL1 but those are still insane numbers wherever you drop them.

They are good numbers but if you look at his last game he got 21/23 from the free throw line and went 7 of 20 from 3 and took 28 shots for the game. Easy to put up big numbers when you don't let anyone else shoot. He also did that in only 32 mins.

Strongly disagree. Pepper isn't shooting everything as evidenced by his 6 assists per game.

Even if he were though, Pepper is still extremely scoring with ridiculous efficiently: 72% on 2s, 46% on 3s, 89% on FTs, and the team's offense is BY FAR the best in the country.

This is despite their opposition knowing that everything runs through him, and they've gameplanned around it.

"Generational form" is an apt description. Appreciate this while it lasts.

5.25 TOs a game

If you watch his defence is lacking and last night teammates looked out of place as he wasn't running any structure just getting his and they started jacking up questionable shots.

Coach got pissed at him a couple of times for not playing defence and Getty the ball through hands.

They are good numbers but if you look at his last game
"Sure, he's putting up insane numbers, but bear in mind he played poorly once."

vs Joondalup: 48 points at 16/30 from the field, 10/21 from three, 6/7 FTs, 8 assists.

vs Rockingham: 51 @ 16/30, 9/21 threes, 10/12 FTs, 6 assists

vs Lakeside: 50 @ 18/25, 9/15, 5/5, 7 assists

5.25 TOs a game
With the ball in his hands a ton of the time on a team I imagine plays at one of the higher paces in the league.

Yep, my bad. Guy's washed.

I'd hate to be the supposed 2nd best player in NBL1 right now. He must be absolute trash.

Tough crowd.

Easy to put up big numbers when you don't let anyone else shoot.

If my player was shooting at this clip, I would not want anyone else shooting!

Some insane hate in this thread already. Every coach in the country would replace you or your favourite player with Pepper in a heartbeat.

Wild numbers, even wilder thread

Crazy to think his team's 4-0, top of the ladder, with average winning margin 26 points and he's putting up these numbers. Yet multiple posters criticizing him.

If you shoot it 30 times (like Bryce) you're going to put up numbers. I said impressive. Compare his shots to Withers ... no one else sees the ball. It’s a fact, not a criticism

As already said, if he's putting those numbers up at a very decent clip why is there criticism if he's taking majority of shots?
Fair enough if coach is critical of defence, but can't argue with the stats on the other end.
And if ball is in his hands so much and opposition would probably be doubling him, that would account for those turnovers.
FFS, guys averaging 50 on above 50% shooting. Could stand and eat a hot dog in the corner on defence and still would be enough to let him play.

His turnovers reflect the high usage on offence because shockingly for the third year in a row Warwick has many many wings and very few guards.

20 TOs in last 3 games nearly cost them the game against the Wolves.

The guy is unstoppable and can flat out play.
My point being is look at what happened to the rest of the team against the Redbacks compared to the last 3 games.

Other players started looking for theirs instead of getting the ball through hands or making the extra pass as gas happened previously so one guy putting up nearly 40 shots can have a negative effect on the rest of the team.

It is a team game last time I checked and without the team playing defence he won't score 50 every week.

No hate for the guy just looking at the deeper game. I'm sure Withers, Creek and Mitch Clark when he arrives all have aspirations to play somewhere else after the NBL1 season is over so they need to get a look in.

I guess we will find out when he leaves for Boomers duty soon what happens to the rest of the team.
