Nick Marvin the quasi 36ers GM?

Have heard this from a few people now and Boti Nagy mentioned it on his podcast

The drums are beating that Nick Marvin has been engaged to negotiate and recruit players to Adelaide. The same guy that turned down the GM gig.

Where does this leave Weston? Marvin hasnt been involved in the NBL for years so not sure what his relevance he is to the modern era. More money down the drain on management types that should be being spent on the roster or genius ? Time will tell.

The 36ers are in very bad shape recruiting wise. Nobody wants to play unless they are over paid to be here. Dech will take advantage of this and ive got him at 70% likely to stay purely because Adelaide will over pay to keep him to save embarrassment.

Judging from his website he seems to be a "culture" guy

» PERFORMANCE - What are the key factors that contribute to performing teams?
» CULTURE – How to create a workplace culture that genuinely engages your people?

» CONFLICT MANAGEMENT – How to manage conflict and encourage candour in your organisation or team?

Maybe they realise the place stinks and they need outside help to turn it around?

They are a basket case off court. When you look at what a terrible organisation they have been for a long time, maybe their on court results are about right.

Marvin has been an outside consultant to GK since leaving the Wildcats.

In theory (has a PhD or something) but not in practice.

Weston's a culture guy. They’re all culture guys. I’d be surprised if Weston wasn’t GM in full control and even more surprised if he even considered having someone else make recruitment decisions.

Put that one to bed.

You think Weston recruited a guy to do his job do you?

Opinions on Marvin vary depending on who you speak with, and he isn't to everyone's palette. However, one thing you can't criticise is his ability to recruit quality people who work hard. He will be similar to Roth in what he expects from players, wouldn't be putting up with people who aren't dedicated and well behaved, or individuals who place their ego above the team. I think if anyone can turn Adelaide around in terms of professionalism, he would be up there.

When he joined the Wildcats, the culture was pretty average. The team was full of party boys and there was no real direction, they weren't engaged with the community enough, and the profile had taken a hit. He came in and turned it around. Not everyone likes his style but he's good at what he does.

Some actual good players would be nice.

Marvin did well under a switched-on owner in Bendat at the Wildcats (and various other businesses prior to that). Problem being GK is the polar opposite to that.
