How to help prepare for Metro Jamboree/FDP tryouts

Hey all, my 12 year old daughter has been selected to tryout for the Metro Jamboree and FDP next week and I was hoping to get some advice on how to prepare her for it. She is a little nervous. Is there anything she should focus on practising leading in to it. Thanks everyone

One bit of advice my son was given and says has held him in good stead is - be coachable.

Most likely the trial will start with some basic warmups and drills, then move to learning/walkthrough some offensive or defensive structures/plays, then probably finish with some scrimmages. If during the scrimmages, your daughter is making a strong effort to execute the plays that where taught earlier, that will be well regarded.

Go and spend thousands on a player development coach and make sure she knows how to dribble around cones, suck up to the coaches and belittle the other players. Then during the training make sure you tell at her what to do, and if she doesn't make it then bad mouth the coaches and say the selection was rigged and that she is way more talented than the girls that made it. Then post all about it on this forum how disgraceful the process was. That's what a lot of parents seem to do.
But seriously, do as jonnosan suggests, tell her to have fun, learn from the process if she doesn't make it and remember she's only 12.

Indeed tell her to have fun and learn from the process.

But many people who have been through the journey know the selection processes are ALWAYS rigged to some extent. It occurs at every level of Representative ball especially in the 1s and 2s teams. It probably occurs at the FDP and SDP levels as well.

Sadly it is not always the most talented players that are selected. Coaches ALWAYS have favourites for many reasons. They tend to get selected regardless of their talent levels usually to the detriment of the team. But by the time that is realised, the damage has already been done.

It is great shame but it is what it is.

@The Phantom ... A lot of parents post about how disgraceful the selection processes are because in many cases the selection processes *ARE* disgraceful.
