Adam Caporn named as new Boomers coach

From NBL.com.au

Adam Caporn will be the next Australian Boomers coach according to reports from ESPN's Olgun Uluc.

In addition to Caporn, Melbourne United head coach Dean Vickerman has been named associate head coach and will be expected to lead the team during non-tournament FIBA windows.

Surprising then they went through the process involving Snyder and Herbert. Surely you know what you're getting with Caporn, so how has he managed to then trump other candidates deep into a selection process? My guess is either party went cold on the Snyder option due to financial reasons or it was just never going to work out. Maybe that pressure to pick an Australian also.

Personally, I don’t like this choice as I believe Vickerman is the best local coach we currently have, but I do understand why they have gone down this path.

He’s been there for a while as an assistant, but also seems like of those coaches that everyone seems to rate highly but without any major head coaching accomplishments?

Conservative choice compared to Snyder or Herbert but going with a local pleases lots of people.

The aim is for Snyder to still be involved as consultant and be on the ground for major tournaments the Olympics and WC

It had to be someone the NBA guys respected and would work with, given that the majority of the team will be from the NBA.

Oh no
Hardly any senior head coach experience
Never won anything
Very underwhelming
One of the plum jobs in world basketball.
We've fumbled this and turned it over.

A bit underwhelming for me. One year as head coach of a G league team isn't any where near enough experience as a head coach. I worry that this is the cheap option, but hope he does great things.

I think this is clearly a developmental c=decision. They know we arent winning anything for the next four year window. It makes sense to go with a younger Aussie Coach and put great minds around him like Snyder and Vickerman.

I personally would prefer an Australian head the team, so I like this move, although I agree it could be shaky to start. I think the next WC and Olympics we will most likely run with a younger inexperienced lineup, looking to prepare for a serious push to medals in 31 & 32 when we are likely peaking.
