Brett Maher court no more?
Rumours that 36ers management have instructed staff to no longer refer to AEC show court as 'Brett Maher' court.
Truth or rumour?

Would be the type of spiteful behaviour i'd expect from current ownership.

Being the devils advocate here, he doesn't want to have anything to do with them so why name the court after him and again it’s their money, so until there is a different owner, owners it’s not changing.

NO request as such was made by Maher.. rule that one out.

Probably rumour by negative Nellie's. Historically sixers embrace the past achievements players and team with tremendous zeal.clearly until new season involves all speculating to generate some news. Put more energy and focus on moving forward fellow humans. Embrace the past strive to engage in future.

I'm not certain it’s up Marr, it’s up to the man that pays the coin out. It’s a business decision, if he pisses off to many and they don’t turn up it’s a failure, if no one really cares he’s got rid of a name that has walked away from the club.

Maher said their values don't align anymore.
That name doesn't need to be on the court then.

Would Chicago disown Jordan? You all know I am not a great fan of the current owner but this is reaching new depths of pettiness.
What message does it send the 2 current players to take Brett's name off the court?
Add this to the previous wowser moments
- Sues Creek and loses trying to stop him going to the NBA
-Allegedly goes after Creek because he tried to pick up a girl in a bar when out partying with the team only to be upset that said girl leaves with your star player
-Gives a coach a guaranteed 5 year contract with no out clauses , the duly sacks that coach 2 years in
-Sacks the replacement coach after 1 year and after waiting for him to finish quarantine
-Sacks that replacement coach
- Has a team that beats the Phoenix Suns, then stops players on that team playing in the NBA
-Signs Ninnis to 2 years then sacks him before he coaches a single game
-Lets Mc Veigh walk because he was signed by a coach you used to think was the messiah and now dont like so you let an NBA / Boomer guy walk
-Employs JVG despite everyone advising you not to and why , shockingly that didnt work out.
-Congratulates DJ on retirement only to be told I haven't retired and he plays for SEM.
-Signs his son as a scout and gives him a coaching role
-Goes on road trips and interferes with coaching in game decisions
This is all I can be bothered mentioning , there are plenty of skeletons and other things in peoples closest

Yeah but apart from that he's doing a good job.

I think I agree a lot with Qanon's beliefs. Can probably add to that list without much effort, didn't even mention this season's tribulations.
It's embarrassing that if this is true, it wouldn't rank in the top 5 WTF, what the hell are they thinking. Ok, Maher has made his thoughts about the current direction clear, but unless he comes out and says he doesn't want his name associated with the club in any way, then it should stay. Will retired numbers start to unretire if past players disagree? Jordan and Pippen weren't happy with the Bulls, are their jerseys going to come down and MJs statue removed?
In the scheme of things, it's really just petty. But it'll go on the ever expanding list, most won't care. And to be honest no-one ever says they're going to sit courtside at Brett Maher court, it's just an honour that was bestowed on the best player to ever represent the team (and yes arguments can be made for Davis etc). It's simple disrespectful.
But he's the owner and can do what he likes as some say, but if you agree with the decision you support GK and no-one can argue that he's the single most reason the club has struggled. Not many will be sad when he goes one way or another. He's getting in the rarified air of Donald Sterling these days.

Knowing someone who worked with him where he got fired from, he had a pretty "loose" reputation there, so it's no surprise that sort of thing continued on with him running the 36ers.
I worked with a CEO who reminded me quite a lot of him. It was great if you were out of the office, he was a fun guy, but not someone that I ever enjoyed having to work under at all.

Fair comment , amended to sacked in his 3rd year with 2 years to go after having the club captain air private group messages to embarrass said coach

I dont agree with them changing the name of the court, but the fact is the change wont have any effect on the team from a financial standpoint. They'll continue to sell out games and the world will keep turning, no matter how incompetent management is.

The moral of the story ...
Never name a significant venue (Arts, Sports, etc.) after a living human being until they are very elderly or have passed on.
(Not talking about local community venues. Only venues that are regularly used for significant national or international events.)

How is that a moral??? The ultimate honour is to have the court named after the best player, especially in their lifetime. Buildings can be bulldozed but wherever the team is based, the court should always have that dedication follow them. Unless that person is disgraced legally, or if they petition to have their name removed, which I don't believe has occurred, just that Maher is unhappy with how his mate was treated and questions the direction of the team.
The moral is not to have an owner that is petty and immoral. If/when the team changes hands one of the first things to happen would be to rechristen the court. It just highlights the loss of connection management has, hence the comments by past players. There's no reason to remove the name except for extreme paranoia, but everyone knows he's terrible.

Certainly not the end of the world BUT...
A Club that doesn't honour it's past is soulless, dysfunctional and has NOTHING to build on.
