Fantastic for the NBL 1 comp. Great to keep sixers in town. Hope more clubs look at encouraging sixers to stay here in off season. Builds great connections. Keep to take option to watch play more. Love how club embraced local community. More the better..great work to initiate

DJ had a stint with Diamond Valley in NBL1 South that wasn't great from the feedback. Barely trained with the group, was only at games he was happy to attend. Hoping forestville get the most out of the experience.

I not posted anything about sotto and certainly not phillipilo.. think you are confused..like to be informative and contributing to open minded discussions about common interest...positive progressive and like to think have good knowledgeable base...so my point is grate for competition to have high profile identity playing..celebrate.hope others do likewise. Plenty to go arounders...

Great opportunity for the Forrestville Juniors in that team to train against and play with the calibre of DG and Starling.

It was Sotto that numbnuts used to troll about, it was Daniel Johnson so interesting this didn't get him started.
Makes it interesting, if anything it makes it less so. I assume Deano is still at West, he'll really need to dig into his pockets to buy a team this year, only Rasmussen that I've seen so far. Maybe he has Davis and Harrell up his sleeve.
Has Souths money dried up after big spends the last few years for them to let Starling go?
It is good for Sixers to stay in town over the offseason. Pity it couldn't be more evenly distributed. Maybe every season the club's can chip in $5k each and at the end of the season it can be distributed as a sort of draft. Eg if Southern come last they get $10k to go towards player salaries, 8k for second last until finalists get 0. Yes it brings in the tanking debate, but might be able to provide the cellar dwellars some extra cash to entice players or buy better players. And could be a sort of luxury tax for clubs like the Cheatgles.
I remember years back when games were midweek and nearly every club had a sixer playing as an extra training and pocket money. Mark Davis, Ninnis at South, Rob Rose at Forestville, even Trimmingham played a couple at Central's. And can still remember Billy Fikes debut at the old Forestville stadium and dunking all over Paris McCurdy who started talking shit but went quiet. We'd all heard about Billy playing reserves the week before and his hops, but for most of warmups it was finger rolls until he pulled out a huge windmill that had everyone going WTF was that! Good times.
Enough of history, wouldn't give the title away just yet, will be interesting to see the tussle of who shoots more between the DJs. And how will that affect Starlings game, will he just be relied on defence and putbacks? Same with Mayes. And Doyle will be a spectator out there because sure as hell he won't be getting the ball back. As for Fiston I doubt he'll even score in double figures.
Seen a few other random signings, but this would be biggest after Starling. But could go the way of other superteams like Phoenix and Malone/Payton Lakers. I sure hope so. I wonder if they'll be able to suit up one of their juniors as a 9th or 10th man. Yes I do know Doyle is, but didn't he come over in u18s, so even that's a stretch.

Yeah DJ is a favourite of mind. So should be great constant contributor.. ever club with a sixer be wonderful. That be huge promo to build club connections ongoing support and passion and podiatrist amongst supporters. So good for culture. Huge to assist dev. And builds comradeship. Pumped for coming season localely and nbl wise..

Kings of Cash, the Fore$tville Ba$ketball club have secured a superb line up for sure. Juniors programme running max teams to ensure there's plenty of cash to splash.... Serious question though, does anyone know the ratio of (male) junior players successfully transition to the FEBC NBL1 Central team and get court time?
Looking forward to a great NBL1 Central season

Billy Fikes was next level. The story of the money on the back board was next level.

Phantom would it be a stretch to say he would have been NBA calibre on their athletic metrics these days?

I Played against him and was scared for my life.

If only Sam McKinnon and Mike Kelly dint get him in the SEABL GF , still played NBL for Canberra when it was in free fall.

Hopefully Johnson won't start the game in sneakers and deliberately foul and sub off just to qualify. Biggest joke since they got Borrego to do it as well. And Andy going around saying he wasn't going to play finals, hence the Cheatgles.
Can't even get the dress code upheld so Andy can wear his Jorts.
As for juniors coming through, I think Deng, Harris and Phillips are only ones who I believe played juniors. Wouldn't even think any played any significant minutes last year.
Unfortunately like all forms of the games it's an arms race and teams from NBA to local juniors will recruit super teams over developing within. Even the great USA had to import in Embiid and Banchero. At least Sturt (despite a since deleted thread saying otherwise) normally field a predominantly local team that can compete. Aand most other clubs have their juniors come through unless you're Forestville or wherever Deano goes. Would love to see how him and Andy would go having a budget team, doubt they would know what to do.

Qanon, Billy did greatest in game dunk I ever saw live. Fast break, Defender at old under 10 foul line, Billy took off, was horizontal as he dunked over defender (embarrassed to bring his name up), I was trailing directly behind and remembering seeing soles of shoes. Helped defender up but was thinking what the hell had I just seen. To my knowledge no-one ever mentioned that dunk to player, even in jest, were probably just happy it didn't happen to them.
Had amazing athleticism but couldn't shoot and maybe 6 5 but big wingspan. Remember if he went home to visit he'd come back 10 kgs heavier. Wish he'd stayed, think he's a deputy back in states.

why do you say 'he' as if it were the case the user in question can't read what you're saying?

I don't understand what difference it makes if someone either speaks English as a second language, or just struggles a little bit with it naturally. Both are ok reasons. Just doesn't strike me as a necessary path to go down unless the context is absolutely made clear as to why the question is being asked.

"most other clubs have their juniors come through unless you're Forestville or wherever Deano goes"

Love this quote even though its wrong
Some of last weeks ressies game with externals to the club looked as following

6 of Southerns 8 players non tigers juniors
Norwood historically have never kept their juniors for NBL 1
North had 5 of their 8 be from other clubs
4 of souths 8 from other clubs

I said most for a reason. Southern's had no good juniors apart from Olbrich come through really, he goes to Deano though. Norwood's better juniors were kept out mainly because of a family and left. South entered the arms race the past couple of years buying up like Forestville and Deano. North had to replace the players they lost due to their incompetence when they made junior coaching changes, those juniors mainly poached by Forestville in 16s, and those links also brought a couple of other players as well.
Due to player movement, 4 out of 8 players being club juniors isn't too bad really. When every player that's going to play meaningful minutes in the main season is bought from other teams, that's the problem. Even the Cheatgles when the main season starts will have most of their reserves team being Forestville juniors, they just will never play in the main team, as will most clubs.

"Southern's had no good juniors apart from Olbrich come through really"

Southern have had 3 U18s teams win state champs in the past 10 years and I believe 0 players from thsoe teams are currently playing for the club.

The Tassle, Ridley, Adcock group
Olbrich, Round, Jamie Smith, Daniel Smith, Curtis Scott group
and the Dickerson, Dennis, Gillespe group

pretty sure all those guys would be U26 yrs old right now and could/should be on the southern roster but arent. Dickerson being at AIS is the only one with a reason not to be at the club and Olbrich currently being interstate is fair. But last i checked Olbirch rather play for West and Deano than Southern.

Tassle, Jamie Smith, Daniel Smith, Round, Scott, Gillespe all have moved on to not play at southern. If you want to add to that list you could also include the Smith twins that are playing at South in ressies as they played for southern from U10s to first yr U18s.
You can also add Raneberg who has played for the Mavs for sometime now as well from southern to Mavs.
9 players playing for other club. Granted Round and Daniel Smith are not in basketball anymore. The rest listed are still playing just not at their jnr club. Thats a whole team roster that is currently in some NBL1 squad playing elsewhere. Olbrich is just the most famous.

Norths current jnrs are still playing jnrs at Forestvile, doesnt explain why the fiston, real, connor, harrap, Logan have left their mens program. They were out of the jnrs system when that all went down.

And its been years for Norwood since "The family that shall not be named" have exited the club, where are their 2020-onwards jnrs or even the jnrs that were prior returned? Norwood have pretty consistantly had competitve jnrs for the past 5 years with state kids sprinkled here and there, they havent retained their jnr talent either.

Everyone loses everyone to everyone else, truth be told we can blame the players and the coaches and the "money" but really its the clubs that arent loyal anymore, committees and presidents change almost every 2-3 years now. The club makes a poor decision, let a coach go and the players start looking elsewhere.

Looking at the reserves team line ups over the last 2 weeks Dennis & Gillespe both suited up for Southerm albeit not in the same week.
Has Gillespe transfered in the last 2 weeks?

Olbrich lured to West by the Deano factor. $$$$

Tassell seems to drift in and out of basketball and has moved from Southern to Sturt, back to Southern and now at West.

West fielding 4 from other clubs with Staude, Tassell, Real, Stock

Where is Ridley & Adcock playing currently as i can not see them on a reserves list or am i missing something?

All clubs seem to go through a patch like this apart from Sturt.

The North exodus to Forestville, plus Yaak, was mainly due to coaches that went there after they were shafted by north and the genius that decided to bring his all star mates in to coach before bolting a year or two after. And I believe others that were in the dream team 18s at North went elsewhere for various reasons. One I heard was the coaching appointment.
And the main stumbling block at Norwood only retired a few years back, still knifed Rojo and Mad Malat on the way out. And normally takes a few years for 18s to get minutes, especially if they head to college. But it cost them guys like Wurm (not a nwd jr), Hulland, Jannsen, Moses and Uche, but I think Uche had no real loyalty there anyway.
Southern were left in worse shape than Ukraine after a meeting with Trump with the financial mess left when Deano departed, its still the story that it took a parent to bail them out so they could survive. And it didn't just relate to seniors. Hence fielding less than competitive teams, Freer brought in some recruits from elsewhere but were still winless.
Would also rank Central's along with Sturt as having a majority of their juniors making up their seniors. Albeit with the neverending swapping with Woodville of a few players over the years.

Agree. Sturt are the best with respect to looking after juniors and transitioning them to NBL1. Not familiar with Centrals but goodto hear. Forestville are the worst.
