Tasmania's NBL team JackJumpers sold

The ABC reports:

NBL owner Larry Kestelman struck a deal on Friday to sell Tasmania's reigning NBL champions the JackJumpers to a private capital firm.

Altor Capital will initially hold a majority stake in the JackJumpers, before taking full control in two years' time.
What's next?

A chunk of the proceeds from the sale will go towards the development of the Wilkinsons Point precinct in Hobart — the site of the JackJumpers' home stadium My State Arena — which include plans for a hotel and convention centre.

Had heard word about this for a little while but didn't say anything because I wasn’t 100%. Seems as if what I had been told was right, great for the JJs

Specialise in emerging growth sectors which aligns with Larry's NBL vision. Whether yield expectations of clients necessarily requires on court success is something we will have to wait and see. Normally the strategy would be to grow the investment itself which would mean growing revenues from enhanced infrastructure (stadium capacity), games revenues, sponsorships, merchandise, media revenues etc. which ultimately does require on court success and investment in the team itself. From what the ABC has reported Larry has got the assurances he wanted from this buyer to maintain the culture and fabric of the club. Says he could have got significantly more from other buyers.

Alexk much prefer this setup private equity investment that will have very little to do with the day to day running of the club as opposed to half the owners in the comp that stick there noses in and interfere and have no idea what there doing

The NBA has a cap on the amount a private equity firm can have in team ownership to avoid the problems that would cause. This obviously helps also limit the stake those big OS funds can purchase.

Larry laughing all the way to the bank considering the Tasmanian government provided the majority off set up money and ongoing funding to put in perspective the wild cats only sold for 40 million. He also managed to acquire the majority of waterfront land surrounding the areana

The initial statement from Ben Harrison sounds very positive. There is no getting away from private equity MO being an exit strategy to realise yield at the end of the projected growth timeline but that is what it is. Other owners I dare say had that mindset too when they bought in but don't have the expertise of this type of investor to bring it to fruition.

If we get the bigger stadium, the striving for ongoing excellence and the WNBL team that all sounds very positive to me.

Also, things like the Bryce Cotton thing doesn’t sound so far fetched with this new owners in place but still don’t think that will happen.

Roth may also now get to say what he wants at his Pressers without fear of the red phone ringing so all round happy days. Although Larry still has 49% for the time being.

Not great news for the 36ers if 35mil

Kelly wants to sell but who wants to buy the club in the state he is leaving it in , front office a
Shambles ,

Now LK won't let them sell for less than 30 mil at lease, especially seeing he owns a part of the team
