Steindl announces retirement

Three-time NBL champion Clint Steindl has announced his retirement after a 356-game career.

Steindl's journey began with the Cairns Taipans (2012-2014) and the Townsville Crocodiles (2014-2016), before he moved to Perth and became a valued member of a successful Wildcats run from 2017-2021.

The sharpshooter tasted his first championship success with the Wildcats, winning titles in 2019 and 2020, before he signed with the Tasmania JackJumpers in 2021, where he has named captain and added another ring to his collection in 2024.

He's had a very good career, but still a bit of a surprise.

I really thought he'd run it back one more year with Tasmania just with the leadership he brings and stability off the bench.

But good luck to him.

Very good career, got most out of his talent, probably going to coaching staff to prepare for Roth leaving in a few seasons. Congratulations.

Really like Steindl in Townsville showed a lot of promise but never really kicked on in Europe and came back willing to be a role player and played that role very well on a few championship teams.

I thought he might've played on one more year for stability but suspect after dropping from 1st to 7th a lot of changes coming in Tassie.

I'm a sucker for a pure shooter so I've loved his work over the journey.
Congrats to him on a very successful career.

(Selfishly I would have liked to see him keep going though. He's still got some daggers left in the scabbard!)

If Blanchfield can do it, Clint can too

Yep thought he would go round for one more season.

Has played more at the backend of the season due to need and has contributed.

Hope he stays with the JJs in some capacity.

The makeup of the JJs going forward will be intriguing, have needed a 4 for a couple of seasons. I would argue even when McVeigh was here.

TBH I have no idea if Crawford and Doyle will be retained, hope so. Along with Drmic. Magnay signed.

Reckon the roster will be thrown up in the air.

On Overtime they were talking about the JJ's re-signing both Doyle and Crawford, despite their bad metrics on court together, and continuing to play JC off the bench.

I doubt now as a free agent JC would be willing to sign up again for a bench role, NZ may need a replacement for PJC. Magnay breaking down again and only playing 13 games this season should be a concern, re: shaping the roster.

Possibly making way for Reyne Smith who would have that designated shooters role one would think (if the JJs manage to land him).

JC is such a down to earth guy I don't reckon he minds coming off the bench, you could hear his voice get emotional for a few seconds when he was asked post game about whether it might be his last game for the JJs. There's an xfactor to how close this team is together, how much they're loved by the community (keeping in mind how few professional sports teams we have to support here) and the admiration everyone has for Roth. He's the kind of coach players love playing for
