Ben Simmons bought out, to join Clippers

The Ben Simmons Era in Brooklyn is officially over, and the ending was fittingly dull.

On Saturday afternoon, ESPN's Shams Charania — who had previously reported Simmons and the Nets were working on a buyout agreement — reported that the two sides had indeed reached a deal, and Simmons was to become a Los Angeles Clipper...

Wonder if pattys conditioning and training routine, as well as his love for the green n gold will teach simmo anything.

I think it is just time for both Ben and any suitors to start accepting the fact that he is not as good as everyone thought he would be, even if that involved his mental capacity, knowing that is part of it all.

This might liberate Ben to just be a handy roll player?

Just defend, rebound and create.

Can we please not do this again?

Curtley, no one can teach Ben anything. That has been his problem since U14.

I would hope that with his injury woes hopefully behind him and maturing as a person, Ben just plays to his potential now. Having Patty as a team mate is definitely a bonus for him.

Wasn't Mills at Brooklyn when Simmons was there. I never saw the fuss when he was a youngster. Anyway he’s certainly done well for himself so that’s a positive.

mball, but we can't just keep kidding ourselves that everything will fall back into place for Ben when it all "comes together."

I am not even convinced he wants to be an NBA player. And he doesn't have to be either.

Part of being good enough is having the drive and mentality. He wouldn't be the only player to have the potential, but not have the rest of it.

He's been contributing decently, if you have a new expectation rather than hope he'll regain his peak.

Wonder what factors pushed him to LAC - the city, different role? Would've thought Cavs would be a stronger shot at a ring.

He bought a big giant mansion in LA soon after getting that big contract from Philly.

I hope he does well but I reckon this is his last stop. He's currently averaging 6pts, 5rebs and 7asts. Added he restricts the offence when on the court.

He had a good run. I think it’s a case of yes injuries physical and his mentality but also teams figuring out his game and making adjustments which he was never able to adjust his game to. 7 years in and I think teams would be more willing to invest in their rookies.

I foretell another injury will cause our Ben to miss a part of the season, but I can't tell whether it’s going to be a mental or a physical hurt at this stage.

Yes they overlapped for one season I think before Patty was traded. Ben injured.

No we can't but have to hope he can play to the best of his ability for however long that may be. Let's get behind our Aussie.

Wasn't he part of the harden trade from Philadelphia to Brooklyn? Full circle now they are teammates. Hell Nico Batum was also part of the harden to clippers trade. They are all on the same team? Interesting.. to hardens credit he is having a nice rejuvenated career as a playmaker in los angles . He is playing well

I'm always hoping guys can get it together but I genuinely think this is his best chance. He's no longer a contract, with the pressure that goes along with it.

Should that bother an NBA player that much? No, but we've seen with Ben he's struggled massively in the mental game. Being a minimum contract guy with the expectations that come along with that could be what he needs to become a decent rotation guy.

He was doing well in that capacity in Brooklyn this season.

No, he'll never "reach his potential" or be an All Star again, but he absolutely has the ability to stick around in the NBA another 5+ years and play a role *IF* he wants to. And who knows there right?

Good move for Simmons. Has a chance to play a role on a playoff team, without the expectations that he appears to struggle with.

He'd never go to Cleveland, it's a working class city, full of salt of the earth people. He'd never fit in. LA is perfect. City full of people expert in convicing you they are something else. A better match you'd be hard pressed to find.

His biggest problem is he's a big sook that's always had things handed to him and doesn't know adversity. The back injury certainly doesn't help, but it just seems he doesn't care or is competitive enough. What team will give him a contract next year, and if so it won't be much. Will he be willing to actually want to play for the minimum. Would say he purely went to Clippers because of the LA lifestyle, more interested in going to a fashion show than actually working out.

Its just one game but...

Simmons today in his LAC debut:
12 points (4-5 FG, 4-4 FT) 7 rebounds, 6 assists, 3 steals a block and no turnovers in 27 minutes in a win without Kahwi (although in OT against the lowly Jazz).

One of his best games since leaving the Sixers.
