Taipans @ JJs 8th February 5:30pm aedt

First game of tonights season-ending double header.

The Teal game for Tassie so that'll give them motivation to end a tough season with a W. They do have a magic winning margin they can chase for playoffs, but it's a very big number.

For the Taipans they can end the season and potentially the Adam Forde era with a W, expect Armstrong to come up big in front of family.

Some food poisoning running through the 'Pans is about the only chance the JJs have of winning by enough to make finals!

If JJs still on high injury toll can't see them winning, certainly if Armstrong and Waardenburg play as well as the other night. Cairns for me.

Waardenburg been hacked every time he's had the ball and gets nothing, pulled Drimic and gets called , you got understand why he gets upset.

When they come off, Armstrong throws the best passes in the league by a mile

Stoddart is very useful, MacDonald and him could be a good combination for JJs next season with Doyle back, gives them more money for top line 4/5 import. Doyle would be very good in Cairns.

Crawford starting to tear up in the post game interview when asked about his future in Tassie

Crawford very emotional at interview at games end, said tasy is great place and it's home, hoping to come back. I just don’t see him and Doyle getting the gig together again, both great players but JJs need a 4/5.
Nz should chase Waardenburg big time, let Bolden go. Crawford would be good at nz if PJC doesn’t return.

JJs need to fix the PG spot as well. Won't go anywhere with MacDonald as the only PG on the roster. Were a little lucky in their title year by his improvement and health, but their other perimeter import has to be able to genuinely run the show as well as score so they can get the most out of Doyle and their role players, and that's bad news for Crawford, as important as he was in their championship they just need something else now.

Roth seemed to be talking about brining in new locals in free agency and said they had been working on that since December. So there is going to be change. Also spoke about imports being looked at from April onwards. JC has brought so much to the JJs and deserves to come back but I get the feeling they are going to go after a gun local again. Noticed Roth lingered a little longer with Waadenburg at games end so fingers crossed there. No real give aways I could detect with Armstrong during the game. He wore the teal socks and there was a bit of feeling between him and JC but that could have just been in game stuff.

Yes it's done for love, money mike summed it up very nicely. It’s a salt of the earth club. I walked away from a little bit negativity about Cairns I had a while back. They do it tough up there. Forde got a young family, not convinced he’s returning.

Roths also very good as usual. They will get there locals first and the sort out imports.

Have heard rumours if Armstrong doesn't head overseas he will more than likely be playing at the Jack jumpers I definitely don’t think Crawfords coming back, I think they will bring Doyle back and go after a high quality 4/5 import, be interesting if McVeigh stays in the states as well could shake things up if he comes back

I think jackjumpers are chasing a Aussie guard for long term future .
Definitely need a 4/5 quality player. Like a hart
I would like to see Doyle back
WalterBrown feel hasn't come on. And is signed for next
Season I would like to see stoddart come back but with brown signed for next season. Make it hard as space.

I didn't get the impression from the press conference that Forde thinks he’ll be back.

Have also heard rumours Brisbane are into Doyle, and the obvious one Adelaide into Drmic with both having the potential of ending up those clubs.

I got the feeling that Forde thinks coaching at Cairns is a lot more of a job than just coaching, so many other jobs required. He looks exhausted, probably taking time out if nothing happens.

Love Drmic at Tasmania would hate for him to leave.

Would also start calling out his throwing back of the head on every play and niggling of others when on another team but when on the JJs he is just plays hard

Ha it's part of his charm. A healthy bit of white line fever, he starts everything as soon as the other player reacts he throws his hands in the air like he's the victim.

Yep exactly zodiac but he also gets back on D, crashes the boards and chips in with some buckets. Really like his game.

Just watched the press conferences for Forde and Roth.

Two quality humans who looked exhausted, respect what Forde does with limited resources. Develops players who move on. Having the team manager there was smart showed the issues with governance and extra responsibilities in FNQ.

Roth is Roth very lucky to have him in Tasmania, has embraced this state and made Tasmanians proud of being Tasmanian. I for one respect him.

It's really important to ensure the survival of Cairns. I want to see more smaller city based teams, not less. Taipans, Crocodiles, Cannons, etc etc. Brings back a bit of NBL nostalgia amongst teams like Phoenix and United, who still don't feel right to me despite undoubted success.

Is the league doing enough when you consider Adelaide just get rewarded for being poorly run? I get the league interest in keeping Harrell, but Cairns must be thinking "What about us". They deserve a championship.

Totally agree, smaller based teams are in European club competitions everywhere, do they win often, no but they make the competition so much better and like Kelly in Cairns a few seasons back they can have great seasons. It really keeps the competition interesting. Smaller stadiums can also really rock.

Think Word14 was right about Drmic. It keeps coming up on contracted player lists for next season that the JJs have a team option. If so, would expect the JJs to exercise it.

Money is not going to lure Doyle away from the JJs. Would not have re signed last time if that were case. In any event I think the JJs have deeper pockets than the Bullets.

From Taipans.com

"Head Coach Adam Forde will not be returning next season, as he takes his incredible talents overseas. The Club fully supports Adam's decision and are excited for the next steps he will take with his young family.

"Fordey" will remain connected to the Taipans in a new role that will be revealed very soon, and he will stay in Cairns for the coming months."
