Jimmy Butler traded to Warriors for Wiggins/Schroder/etc

Another major and likely to be questioned trade. Still being finalised but sounds like:

Butler goes to Warriors and quickly signs a two-year, $121m extension.

Wiggins and PJ Tucker go to Miami. Anderson was meant to be going to Toronto but that fell through and he's staying in Miami. Warriors first round pick goes to Miami also.

Schroder heads to Utah.

Waters III and Josh Richardson are routed to Detroit.

Warriors selling low on Schroder but maybe high on Wiggins who'd been playing well and at almost a third of the cost of Butler! Wonder if this is it for GSW or if they still have another move to come. Vuc is still out there.

I don't think it's a good trade for either team, but Miami are good at getting more from less. I guess they just had to move him? But what would happen if they just said "Bugger it, if you don't want to play, then you won't get paid, so we don't really care" kind of thing. It feels like Warriors are just adding a star for the sake of adding a star, and he got a two year extension? Crazy!

Doesn't the new agreement remove the MLE in favour of veterans minimum?

So basically for the next 2 seasons the Warriors will have about $150mil USD tied up on 3 35+ year olds, and they've got Buddy Hield, but no ability to top up their roster with anyone not willing to sign for peanuts?

Butler didn't get the deal he wanted from Phoenix pick up his player option and 2 year extension on top. Golden State are making him decline his player option for next season to get that 2 year extension.

Butler must've been really desperate to go to all the trouble he did in Miami to only end with one extra year at $51M. Then again he wasn't getting that from Miami and probably not many other teams either but enough egg on his face just for one extra year.

They'll still get an MLE of some description, unless they're over the 2nd Apron

But the MLE's for teams in luxury tax are still pretty low

They should bring in Patty Mills and Joe Ingles

Fits with the Olden State Warriors theme, and will avoid too much luxury tax

A few other big trades today, as a Hornets fan I'm not pleased with trading Mark Williams to the Lakers

I've added a general trade deadline thread for the smaller trades.
