Cairns Brisbane 6th Feb

A bit of light entertainment tonight with The Taipans and Bullets finishing their respective seasons on, hopefully, a fun filled run to close their seasons. Won't happen that way as both teams will try to gain some "pride" with their last chance. Possibly a bit late for that.

Some speculation here re Forde's continued involvement with the Taipans and their roster seems less-settled for next year. Home court may be a factor.

On the other hand, Brisbane feels quite settled in coaching and roster.

Think that Brisbane will get this one fairly easily.

Cairns at home for the last dance.

If taipans turn up, it might be a good game, if they go all iso it could be bullets easy. Bullets by 10.

What's with all the talk about Forde - where's he potentially going?

Some drum linking him to Adel and Bris if either decide to part ways with who they've got.

I really wish he'd stay at Cairns but personally wouldn't be surprised to see him head OS.

Surely Schueller deserves to stay on at Brisbane

Agreed, Damo 75.

Personally, I like Scheuller as Bris HC. Forde would also be good but, "if it ain't broke, ...."

Adelaide may need him, though. As should Cairns.

It won't happen but ... would a straight swap of Forde and Wells benefit both organisations?

Could be ominous for Schueller.

Surely Scheuler is safe, maybe look who did the recruiting, to many budget guys.

The review speaks of the injuries, will be a look into physio staff and load mgmt no doubt.

Would Forde really want to be involved in the circus and the clowns that run it? He seems like he won't take interference and is no nonsense. Money talks, but is it worth joining the graveyard of Adelaide coaches.
If Cotton leaves and Rillie can't survive without him, that nice wildcats job might be worth waiting for.

Refs calling very soft fouls under the bucket, let them play, Prather and Groves two fouls each halfway through the first. We want to see better players playing not sitting.

Hooley is so hard to listen too, when he started he was ok but now he thinks he can tell Le bron how to play. His love of Armstrong is off the charts, is he on a cut if these guys get drafted or go euro.

MC, I would like to see Wells get another chance, with a team with a bit more freedom and better culture. There were times when I felt some of his strategy was pretty smart or innovative (but his players let him down).

I'd like to see Forde get the chance at Sixers, and I think he’s strong and competent enough to shut down a lot of the interference.

Higgins-Tish been a good fing, should develop into a good two, three.

Armstrong has been much better when Edwards isn't there, and same for Edwards when Armstrong isn’t there.

Triple double to Armstrong, very well played. Very good job by Cairns, Waardenburg also did good. Brisbane to decimated, had a go though. Both sides got cut players shrewdly, they both got some good talent.

Hoopie, good points. I don't think Wells is out the door yet though, especially if Davis leaves. I would be surprised if he'd want to relocate to Cairns though, as I don't think he's desperate for just any job, and I think the opportunity was based around taking over Adelaide only.

Re: The Bullets review.

Sounds great to me. Since re-joining the league, Brisbane has struggled (failed, really) to deliver any success. Seems that now, the Bullets may be on the verge of a more successful future. Certainly needs tweaking a little here and there but really hope we don't toss the baby out with the bath-water.

The local Core of the team is solid. A back-up 5 is a necessity (with or without Rocco) and it appears that at least two of the starters may be targeted, Bannon and Prather. What to do if...?

The HC, Scheuller, is adequate. That may sound harsh but truth is, he ain't the world's, or even the NBL's, best coach.
Never-the-less, deserves lots of credit for getting this far in a relatively short time and the opportunity to show that he can go to the next level! Remember, too, that Brisbane was looking a bit like Adelaide when Scheuller became HC. Not the drama, admittedly, but the uncertainties and the chopping and changing were in full swing.

To do;
retain Coaching staff
retain Bannon and Prather (and the rest of the roster)
get me the back-up centre and perhaps a back-up 3/4
get me a c'hip

RobT, I agree with your summary. For next season, stability and culture is key; start looking to improve on individual pieces in the following season.

I'm kind of hoping that Rocco gets drafted as part of that, although I’m not convinced he will be - seems too much like an Tacko Fall kind of contribution. I see it as addition through subtraction.

Rucker was saying that Bannon should be very careful chasing roster spot in a team vying for the championship, while he's a good player he’s not a starter on a championship team, Ruckers words yesterday one of the nbl shows, very fair summation, also said got train harder during off season to try and avoid a lot of his pesky injuries.
