Dear WNBL,

It would be a great idea to have commentators that actually love and know the game. I'm not talking about the special comments people.

Things they say;

"A dagger" How can you have a dagger in the 2nd qrt?

"She's going from strength to strength" How does a player go from strength to strength in a game?

"Wowee" that one belongs to only one person.

The mark of a truly good commentator is they help you feel the excitement and atmosphere as if you were there. Also if the screen went black, you could still see the game through their words like old school radio. The monotone voice and lack of understanding of how to accentuate momentum changes and exciting plays in the game is so bad it makes it unwatchable.

It's ruining a great product. It deserves better.

I haven't seen their season stats but Lightnings shooting % must be down IMO

Juice, you can add to that when Dean was called for a double dribble and the commentators thought she was called for a travel. Clearly were not looking at the ref's signal. When you are sitting in a studio 650km away it is going to be hard to call the action but if we can see it on the screen then they should be able to.

Can't help but think calling from a central commentary studio and not being in venue helps cause some of the pain.

Streaming in SD does not help either. We need HD ASAP.

Dean is a great PG and hope to see her back. Bourne outstanding and hopefully a future regular Opal.

Impressed with the size of the crowd last night given it clashed with the Wildcats game.

Does Ninnis ever run his timeouts? Or just his assistant? Do you think that's because he doesn’t know their playbook.

Not a fan of Molloy but deserves alot of credit for this game.
No George and the team actually played some good D.
Brancatisano great on both ends, so too taylor.

Some terrible refereeing tonight. Some of the worst I've seen in a while. 17-24 but some wild interpretations of offensive fouls.

Absolutely horrendous referees tonight! I am not even a caps supporter, but that refereeing was disgraceful.

Huge win for the flames. Reffing perhaps suspect, but you can't take away from the way they played. Canberra did not turn up like their season depended on it. Brancatasano was relentless, and the group just hung tough all game. No way they should have won with an average height of 5’11 and a couple of young kids in heavy rotation. This season has been wild.

Aside from the reffing that was questionable , Melbourne's last foul will go down as the bonehead moment of the year .

Sydney earn the right to get smashed by Bendigo . Seeing Samuels vs Tupaea go against each other in a bash fest should be the highlight.

All interest now is in Perth Vs Townsville playing maybe 4 times in the next couple of weeks.

Out of interest watched the game again today. The comments about the refereeing are nonsense.

The WNBL has for years struggled with funds invested in this area, meaning most referees only referee local games, there can be some trends venue to venue and that results in inconsistency across the League.

That said, in this game there may have been 1 early charge called a block, which would have been conisistent with how they called block/charge situation for the rest of the game.

Otherwise the behaviour of the crowd (one-sided as they should be) and the players (which should have been handled by the referees with at least 2 technicals) both were unwarranted.

The Caps lost against a team missing George, Clarke and of course Ruef yet got out-rebounded against 4 guard line ups 37 - 45 and allowed Sydney to shoot 42% from 3, many wide open.

Pouch defensively was average (despite the complaints by the Caps), Melbourne was her own worst enemy, her fouls were all caused by her own over doing it. She also throws her head back constantly, no chance of getting the call when referees are used to seeing you do that.

disagree Nightwing, the referee was terrible yesterday, not good enough.

I do agree the flames played better and with much more intensity and WNBL doesn't have enough money to invest into that game, but yesterdays refereeing was deplorable.

There's no question the caps didn't turn up. But the refereeing was substandard and had a noticeable impact on the game. Not what fans of either team want.

Yeah, the couple of minutes around Melbourne fouling out really stood out as the refs appearing to completely shaft the Caps.

Anyone know where Alice Kunek's overseas short-term contract is? Bit rough not finishing the season with the Flyers who are on the bottom of the ladder and leaving with one game to go. You would think you would do the right thing by the team and finish the year considering it has been a struggle.
