36ers v Bullets 31 Jan.

No interest in this game it seems. Have to admit not much to crow about pre game.

There is now!

Bris led after a tight 1st quarter, 21/22 with a million lead changes and were tied at the main UNTIL... Davis hit a deep 3, buzzer beater and go to the main break up 45/42.

It's half time now. May be worth a watch.

Adelaide deserve a rocket right now. Just lazy and complacent, and not giving Brisbane any respect. I think they are a bit tired and flat, but their season is also still on the line here.

36ers playing very arrogant "this is in the bag" from the start. Only kept in it by Brisbane's poor shooting and early fouling.

Harrell in particular playing like he's got 1 foot out the door.

Sixers can't play any worse, if they can’t win from here they don’t deserve finals. Smith Milner been great

One of the most pathetic performances you'll ever see. Everyone in Adelaide just playing for themselves. It’s not a coaching issue it’s the personnel.

Mayen has developed quite a habit of panicking when he's got the ball and needs to find a close player to pass to.

Enjoying Copeland getting into Hooley saying he never played D. Adelaide fans deserve the wins if not the team.

Story of the 4th quarter there. Rushing to jack up 3's early instead of working for a better shot.

I don't want to hear anyway criticise Wells for this loss, especially when we’ve heard so much about accountability from the players to recognise situations. They came out with a poor attitude, lazy efforts, no respect for their opposition, flatness, and absolutely no determination to change the result until it was too late. I mean, Brisbane did not even play that well. Their players were in foul trouble for the majority of the game weren’t they?

I bet you that Wells isn’t allowed to give them a rocket when they deserve it anymore.

Did something happen during the week again? Did they know they could essentially guarantee a top 6 spot?

Well done Brisbane, you deserved it more!

I don’t usually get like this, but that was the absolute definition of why complacency and arrogance is your biggest enemy.

Lmao, really feel for Sixers fans though, will still play finals but to many selfish players. Take a bow Brisbane you deserve it.
Still lots of questions to be answered at Sixers about team make up and coaching staff for next season.
Brisbane got a very good nucleus and Scheuler has done very reasonable job considering all there injury set backs.

I've said it previously and even though sixers fans don't want to hear it I'll say it again. Basing the team around humphries and particularly DJV is not going to get you success.

DJV no game management at all and embarrassingly being shown up by an underpaid rookie KD who also plays defence. Something that's foreign to DJV.

When sixers needed stability and to set up a play DJV heaved a three then gave up an easy two on D.

Honestly I feel for your pain master chief but I can't help but think until the sixers management are willing to patently build a balanced roster with experience and a winning culture they can't expect to win the comp gambling on marquee players like they are

Kolzee, it's not really because I’m feeling any pain for the loss, it’s more just the frustration with complacency and arrogance, and the complete reversal back into old habits after everything that’s been said. Again, Brisbane did not actually play that well, were down how many players/big men?, and had to navigate foul trouble, and they still managed to win the game. Even if Adelaide were flat, they just had to find a way to get the win. This doesn’t mean the season is over, and Adelaide could easily win the last two, but I just can’t stand it when people don’t see what’s coming.

I know you have always thought about DJ & Humphries. It’s a bit simplistic to say this loss was because of anything related to that, but I do accept your point talent alone isn’t enough to succeed.

Please sixers fan relax. Mighty perth took a hit tonight but no despair. Teams be in heavy pre final training and as such are being pressed hard. Still think perth biggest challenge to get over is sixers. Sixers looking like they had tough on court sessions and looked flat. Hope that is case. Hard to be up all season. Cats had earlier slump.. it's getting hot in the boiler room.

I sometimes just don't understand the Sixers strategy.

When you have 8 or 9 fit and fast guys versus 3 or 4, why wouldn’t you try to run the 3 or 4 into the ground by playing fast every time you have the ball. Speed down the court, fast passing and player movement, even if it’s just for the sake of doing it. As well as tiring them out physically and mentally, you also stand a good chance of getting them in foul trouble because they have no time to analyse before they react.

Instead, Sixers bring it up slowly, look for sets, give the opposition time to get set up and to think, do the same old same old stuff ... and then wonder why they struggle to get easy baskets against a very depleted team.

Simples?

Thought Wells should have injected the bench in that 2nd quarter. Give Rigoni, Marshall, Griscti & Rasmussen a couple of minutes together. It would have got the crowd going, generated some energy for the team, and a chance for the starters to have a think about their own effort.
So to say this is not on the coach at all - I disagree. It's a much about strategy as it is reading the room with regards to energy, focus and enthusiasm.

Doorman, no team is doing heavy pre-final training smh most teams have had multiple injuries all season. With the frequency of games trainings are work through and recover. I thought school went back this week.

Agreed this is squarely on the coach. There are no leaders on the team to pull up DJV and Harrell so Wells needs to be the one to do it and he either doesn't do it or the players just ignore him. Humphries after that one good game in his hometown Sydney has gone back to playing like Humphries again, 14 & 6 it was the same under CJ & Ninnis last season.

Anyway if we make the play-ins we'll just be bounced straight out last night final home game of the season against a crap Bullets team missing half their roster and we lose an unlosable game. Schueller from Adelaide perhaps did a good audition for the job next season. He or Forde would be better than continuing with Wells.

Shakes, I have always been of the belief that the coach is responsible, excpet for last night, especially after the players have driven the idea of accountability and their own adjustment. Even if that does bring Wells coaching into question, he was still getting them to fire as more of a talent manager trusting what they wanted to do on court. IF. that's the case. I could tell that Wells was baffled as to why those same players had suddenly gone against everything that had generated successful change. If the players don't want to be overly managed by Wells, then they need to accepet responsibilty for not being awake last night, at the same time. Sometimes you have a bad night, but this is concerning because for me it demonstrated that Adelaide are still vulnerable to selective engagement. And I think that is on the players as much as it is on Wells.

AlexK, I had that same feeling.

Zodiac, do you seriously think that Wells instructed them to suddenly play in the opposite way to previously? You are right to say that is a symptom of the greater disconnect, but sometimes the players need to be held accountable for their ego, and supposed ownership of the team playing better. I would imagine, and could see, that Wells was frustrated and confused as to why his team didn't care last night.

Dare I suggest that Harrell, DJV and Davis are mainly interested in their personal stats these last days of the season?

I feel that there was better teamwork and cohesion over the last month, but in the last two games that started to go missing.

(If it was easy to look up team assists per game, I'd do it to see if they back up my gut feel, but ... the websites I looked at seem mainly focussed on individuals.)
